I thought Chapman could play either flank, so it is doable. If the opportunity to take him on for the season , I would snap their hand off.

Tomlin actually kicked the ball away twice as well as standing in the way to prevent the free kick being taken. So that's three yellow cards before the dying swan act. The ref saw the second kick away but he didn't look like he was going to do anything about it. He walked forward seemingly just wanting the kick to be taken. If Tomlin hadn't thrown himself on the ground he might, amazingly, have got away with not being sent off.

I think you would be proved completely wrong. How was our record against lowly Harrogate last season?
Diamond would do just fine here as the standard of opposition is clearly the level he is at. To suggest he wouldn’t do well here because we are such a “massive” club is hilarious.

I also think Diamond would do a great job here, watching him last season reminded me of Robbie Blake when running at our defence.

I’m playing devils advocate here but Harrogate only ever seemed to turn up against us. Could be a wildly inconsistent player ?

I know a few Sunderland fans and I asked about Diamond as I thought we might be in for him. He was given a chance by Alex Neil in pre season but I think the general feeling is that he isnt up to it at Champsionship level. They wanted him to do well there as hes been at the club since he was 14 and did look a good prospect.

I'm surprised they are considering sending him out on loan again, would this be the 3rd or 4th season?

I would have thought they had sussed out now that he isn't good enough to be playing in the Championship, and just now be open to offers of a permanent signing

Such a shame,I finally thought in Osadebe we had a flare player who would entertain us but now thanks to a part of the game know one likes to witness that's not going to happen.
I think it's fare to say that we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him again out on the pitch in Claret and Amber.
    All the Best Emmanuel.

Correct. In the predictable torrent of negativity that's been all over social media, following our disastrous result to a team that will almost certainly be in the Top 7, it's easy to forget that he was arguably the most effective wide player as he did more in six minutes than the rest did.

Let's hope he gets back to his best.

And yes we now need to bring someone in on that right side as now we've lost two 'wide men'. We don't seem to have much luck with them do we!!

Should the club sue Ravenhall like the Gordon Watson situation? If not, why not? what's the difference? Mr Rupp should look into this and get expert advise as we could be compensated.

That’s irrelevant to the conversation it was a dangerous tackle whatever the intent

Where is this 'torrent of negativity' on social media? You might find the odd post, that's usual for social media. Certainly no torrent of them. It's the first game of the season, not much you can take from one game. Taken in isolation it was a poor quality game with a Doncaster side who will struggle badly if they play like that every week. We weren't much better but that seems down to a team which will take a couple of months to work out which formation and which group of players will settle into that formation. We looked like a team of lads who had not played together long and to be fair that's what we are. Players are still getting used to what space is theirs and where they should be in relation to their team mates. Looked a fair way from the team that finished last season with the three wins, that in big way due to not having Vernam or Periera to add the width, pace and guile. I agree that with Osadebe and Eisa out its imperative we bring a player of that type in before the window shuts as currently we don't have that type of player in the squad

I read so many negative comments about the match yesterday, I stopped going on the thread. Let's face it, if we lose at Barrow, there will be some (not all) questioning Hughes. We have a significant number of social media warriors that are so 'knee jerk'. I guess that' what five years of poor results gives us!!

It's all relative isn't it? I for one think that Rovers will not struggle at all and I tipped them before to go up along with us and Mansfield) and I've seen nothing to change my mind (of course at this stage those predictions are just a bit of fun)

They've got a very good defense and clearly have followed the Forest Green policy of cynical play - which didn't serve that team too badly.

I love the way that when we don't beat a team, it's seen as poor by us - as opposed to perhaps realising the team we beat came with a plan and so, no, like Forest Green last season, we haven't necessarily seen their best form.

I actually thought it was far more impressive than any of the home performances in the second half of the season (however I was on holiday for the Carlisle) match. We did something we didn't do last season, even when it was 11 v 11 and that's dominate midfield and the defence in all aspects looks very good - especially as we now have adequate reserves.

The impression that they didn't look like they'd played together much - was more to do with their desperation to get that vital first goal. I certainly more disconnected play in an average game last season than his.

Yes. Improvement is needed. Not certain why Harrat wasn't started (he won't be either for the next match!!) as we had too many players who were not direct enough.

But I'll settle for and opener that gives 80% possession and the opposition celebrating like they'd just won promotion.

Doncaster also had a number of injuries to key players. They had a solid defence but we played into their hands somewhat. Quite a bit of naivety on our part.
