The more I think about it Rog the crasser it’s becomes. Hughes clearly had faith in him, otherwise he wouldn’t have offered him a new deal. To refuse the deal based on monetary gain elsewhere I don’t have a problem with whatsoever, however for footballing reasons it comes across as bonkers. Even more stupid are the comments, they are not even a disguised attempt to suggest Hughes is somehow a poor developer of footballers.
It leaves a sour taste……Good luck to the lad but was those comments necessary ? Were they bollocks!

Don't know if I am the only one who is a bit disappointed we have not been able to persuade even 1 of our 3 better players to be part of the new Hughes regime and future.
So much has been positive since Mark came in but when someone posted possible exciting news today this for me is not it, I find it a bit of a shame. I know a lot are not over bothered as they were part of our dreadful past 2 seasons and I can understand this

He had an eye for a pass. That was his main attribute. The vision to make things happen. to switch play, to put the opposition on the back foot. Unfortunately he was very inconsistent, especially during the winter period. I remember watching the Hartlepool away game an he couldn’t string a pass 5 yards away

There certainly is a player in there. He does have the potential. And out of the 3 that have now left, I wanted Watt to stay the most as with the right management he could very well become a championship player one day

Personally I believe he would of flourished with a natural CDM alongside him who could do the dirty work, so Smallwood, along with a manager who would know how to get the best out of him, Hughes.

But he’s made his choice though. Ultimately on paper its a sideways move. That being said, there may be factors we may not be privy to. Valley Parade hasn’t exactly been the epicentre of positivity in the last 24 months.

Best of luck to him. Shame that he’s gone to a League Two rival, but it is what it is. Im sure we’l find someone to fill the void in the time to come

I'd prefer an extra half hour commute than coming home to a nagging. I did a commute which totalled 3.5 hrs there and back and eventually it does start to take it's toll

An offer he had to refuse? MH is no fool. He’s played football politics as a manager before Watt had even left school. I think honestly his agent has been outsmarted.

We do have a decent manager but one that isn't use to Div 2 football.

We have a great crowd at home but recently we have become a team that is scared and don't use the crowd to our advantage.

We have an owner with no real ambition for the club.

We have lost 3 of our best players and not kept them to build around.

Look, I am not saying we won't do well but I do think some are getting ahead of themselves on here at the moment.

Three of our best players who have been replaced by higher quality recruits, which seems to be the consensus.

I think your quip about the manager is simply wrong. Whether it is PL or LG2 the skills are the same. He had Hodges and Gent who both know the lower leagues very well. Last season he didn’t panic when we were dropping like a stone, calm as you like he kept to theories and practices and gradually stopped the bus, then started it going in the right direction. Now as far as I am concerned is class, with the players he had available last season.

The comparison between Watt is a false one imo. They are both midfielders but one is a defensively minded mf whose role is to break up the opposition's attacks and allow others to take control of the ball. The other is offensively minded who is continually looking for the pass to create a counter attack. Yes, he may play deep but that is to collect the ball and not to disrupt the opposition's attack. They would certainly complement each other but they are not alternatives. Watt certainly couldn't do Smallwood's role and I've seen nothing to suggest that Smallwood could take on the playmaker role. I'd have liked to have seen a Smallwood/Watt central partnership in c&a

We haven't had a Smallwood role now for several years, probably not since Jones was here. And now having lost both Watt and Cooke, I don't yet see a central midfielder who can take on that particular role.

Maybe Hughes doesn't feel we need a central playmaker/qb role or has recognised somebody else who can take it on. But I really doubt it is Smallwood despite his other skills. The skillsets of Smallwood and Watt are quite different.

Whether he has or has not moved for the extra money is speculative. Look at the evidence. MH has had a good look at him and offered him a contract. He has turned it down thinking he can not only increase his wages but also play at a higher level. That proved to be non starter. Salford came in and offered more. The club had offered a contract with a sell by date on. It had passed, so he took what they offered him as he was out of contract this week. He is grumpy with MH because he didn’t offer him what he felt he was worth, hence the nasty quip I am going to where I will receive better coaching.

Mane was been paid very well by Liverpool. He probably wanted a new challenge given he is 30 and was at Pool 5 years.

Again comparing L2 to PL is absurd.

Yeah I like Ridehalgh, very consistent and works well with a decent wide player.

Despite all the signings Angol is still pivotal to how successful we could be. You can tell Hughes rates him, with being a strong striker himself with great hold up player in his playing days, Angol brings some of those attributes to the game himself, albeit at a lower level.

Is he playing in a more advanced role at Salford as to what he was with us. Apart from the very rare 40 yard Gerrard ball that landed, I don't think we ever saw anything out of the ordinary from him, especially to supposedly turn the heads of Norwich and Blackpool.

I think at the end of last season his bookings for stupid lazy fouls following being caught in possession or out of position outnumbered the number of chances he created.

Others will disagree, that's the nature of the beast, but for me he isn't missed.

He’d have been good for us next to Smallwood as I said yesterday.

As it is he choose a horrible little club so feck him, hope Smallwood kicks him into touch when we play them and we take the 3 points.

No point looking at what ifs move on and demand better.

I see Watt has registered his 15th assist this afternoon. Meanwhile, we have Mr 0 goals and 0 assists Alex Gilliead running around our midfield.

And to think some people thought he was easily replaceable.

I'm pretty sure we rightly tried to keep him but he chose to move on that's football, and a few people on a message board with a sour grapes opinion doesn't really mean much.

He also takes every set piece for Salford so his assist ratings will always look favourable compared to other midfielders without those duties.

Josh Cullen was and is head and shoulders above Watt, who i will be amazed if he ever gets a gig above league 1 level.
You never say never, but i just can not see him improving that much more.
Although according to his mother in law, he was far better than Bradford City, cough cough Salford!
