We could, but in the 2 games this season against us, he has not looked like a world beater. A good solid challenge early on could take the edge off him also. Go on Mr Clayton, give him a kick.
    We did win both matches.

He also takes every set piece for Salford so his assist ratings will always look favourable compared to other midfielders without those duties.

Someone on Twitter called him £lliott Watt. We would be in automatics if he had stayed here. The only reason he went to Salford was cash!!!

Yet people still care about assists. It really is the most pointless start.

If it was that easy to get a lot of assists from set pieces then every team would have players on 15+ assists but they don't. You could also say strikers like Andy Cook takes penalties so their goals will always look favourable compared with strikers who don't.

Assists can be so misleading. A better stat is key passes where it's not awarded just because a goal has been scored.

Agree about assists, a long punt from the keeper, that gets caught with the wind and puts your striker clean through on goal , counts as an assists if he scores.
Elliott Watt has the potential to be a decent footballer , no more than that. He is 23 with just over 110 league appearances and 6 goals to his name, all in the basement division.

Elliott Watt like other players has the ability to play at a higher level. All depends if a manager sees the value in the player to his squad. Take Paudie O'Connor, I'd argue most folk though he was a fair enough league 2 player but wouldn't nail down a regular gig in league 1. But that's exactly what he has done. Watt will probably end playing higher, but I'm not bothered that we let him go. Good luck to him.

Just because he doesn't score doesn't mean he can't go far. Josh Cullen has 5 career goals yet he's the best midfielder in the Championship and many expect him to do well in the Premier League next season. Nathan Doyle was a very good player and only scored 5 and there are plenty more examples. Just because a midfielder doesn't score doesn't mean they can't be a very good player. For players like Watt their job is to create chances for others not to score.

Josh Cullen was and is head and shoulders above Watt, who i will be amazed if he ever gets a gig above league 1 level.
You never say never, but i just can not see him improving that much more.
Although according to his mother in law, he was far better than Bradford City, cough cough Salford!

Watt is nowhere near the level of Cullen was at their respective ages, leagues apart. Watts one asset is recycling ball and passing it on, it would need a manager looking for that very asset to build a midfield around.

I could and I'd be correct because strikers who take penalties always have inflated figures.

I'm still not sure it's a direct comparison though given just how many set pieces are given each game yet a team can go through an entire season without being awarded a penalty.

O’Connor was a decent player for us despite what is detractors say. Solid and brave like most defenders at this level he had mistakes in him but for the most part he was good. The one player who fans mooned over was vernam who was average until the finish of the season when he wanted a new contract somewhere

In their next games one is facing Callum Camps and Paddy Madden, the other Antoine Griezmann & Kylian Mbappe

Can't see Watt getting much change out of Griezmann.

As we are talking about stats here seems as good a place as any. I haven't fact checked this I was sent today..

    Harry Kane....

32 of his 54 goals were scored against...

    San Marino
    Albania
    Bulgaria
    Montenegro
    Panama
    Kosovo
    Lithuania
    Malta
    Andorra
    Nigeria
    Scotland
    Senegal
    Slovenia

    Add the 18 penalties...

Means he's scored 4 goals in decent games.....

As you have shared it I’ll ask you.

weren’t any of the penalties in those games listed?

and as it is being used to compare him unfavourably against Rooney and Charlton what about the goals they scored against poor teams? Charlton played Northern Ireland regularly in the Home Nations Cup etc. care to share their stats to compare?

I have absolutely no idea. It was sent to me today, I did say I hadn't fact checked it. You could add you can only play what's in front of you . I'm sure someone on here will have the stats to hand. My mate the Arsenal fan assures me it's true
