It would have to be a plan B which we were willing to go through with, no doubt and it’d have to be a big ‘idea’ style project to get fans on board. Trouble is a lot of the fans who would moan about it would compare it to when we were there in the 80’s but it’d be nothing like that if we came up with a plan to say, buy the ground in 2025 with a renovation project lasting until we moved in. It’d look nothing like the Odsal rugby ground. Make it an all seater with a roof on all sides change the seating, give it a modern feel. It’d probably cost around £5 million plus the cost of buying the stadium, which would have to be secured in business loans but far cheaper than building a new stadium which would probably cost £30 million for one half the size of Odsal and not big enough if we got into the championship which surely has to be the aim? At least we’d have an alternative solution to throw at the Gibb pension fund, take our offer or we’re off and you’ll have an empty stadium where property is so cheap you’d lose money developing it. Valley Parade is only tenable as a sporting venue, they lose their rent and that very nice investment becomes a millstone. And that’s our Ace up our sleeve.

Those summer evenings at Odsal with 20k in for games against Leeds, Saints and Wigan were great. I’d forgotten the stock car people were having a go again.

 

Not at all. Done most from Carlisle to Torquay, this recurring theme of developing Odsal is Pie in the sky nonsense. If we end up at Odsal, it would be the same desolate tip we endured in the mid 80's.

Probably. They went few quite a few, although to be fair they managed to keep the same man at the top unlike us union boys who went through at least half a dozen before Abe saw sense and appointed me.
