These lapses have already cost us points.....

He hasnt recovered from that Carlisle howler. This must be his 4 or 5th big mistake this season and has had some awful positioning for some of the goals. That free kick on opening day stands out....

GA might be looking for a new keeper as we speak because at the moment he doesnt have any competition.

I will take that all day. If that’s a poor game. Listen to those compliments from an opposing manager. Same players …. well done GA.

A good levelled appraisal of the game except the offside claim. Rang a few bells of being a City fan

Gilli has such an engine. As part of a three he is doing fantastic. Smallwood and Walker compliment him superbly.

A real asset for me and deserves another deal.

To be fair it's 4th division football it takes 2 to make a good game and they aren't very good, whereas we were good on the night and for those of us who were there,it never ever felt like we wouldn't win

On the other hand, look at the save at Gillingham… absolutely magnificent. This is League 2, players make mistakes. And to be fair I thought the backpas didn’t do him any favours.

Totally agree, how many times have we played so called poor teams and lost dismally, not last night.
Some on here have commented on the conditions. You could say same for both sides, especially the wind but in my view the pitch did us no favours at all, looked nice but from my point as a City fan, it was appalling. Far too hard, never really let us get the ball down and play as we can. Indeed it reminded me (the match at times) of playing with a tennis ball in the school playground, anything coming down from 8-10 feet bounced just as high. Even watering didn't help, could have done with hours of rain in my view to suit us, BUT a win is a win, on to the next.

    Absolutely.

I said on here a couple of months ago, just before Mark Hughes went, how disconnected I felt from the club.

Last night's performance was the complete opposite from what we had. Players knowing their roles, working hard and effectively as well as showing skill. I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

I agree. And agree with the Width of a Post assessment as well:

they actually took the lead when a poor backpass from Halliday was managed badly by Harry Lewis

It looks very much like Platt has taken the "Rory McArdle" job of when were high pressed he plays 45/50 yard balls out wide, he must have done that 5/6 times last night he didn't always find his man but it certainly took the pressure off our defence and put the Doncaster defence under pressure.

What was obvious last night was that the fans are reconnecting with the team because of the effort they are now putting in to the game and just as important its obvious the players are enjoying playing and working hard for each other, Those that have previously claimed that changing managers does not work have been proved that it can and does and in our case massively

Spot on. One of the best keepers in the league and regardless what some say on here absolutely no chance he’ll be replaced, some of the better keepers even in league 1 make a fair number of howlers a season even PL keepers do. GA must be laughing, walked into a club with one of the best keepers and 4 strikers, when we get Young back, who can all score goals. Not a bad position to be in. I have to say Tomkinson is really impressing me as well.

Got to feel for Young who when back will be warming the bench after being a regular starter at Swindon. Not for any other reason that Smith's form dictates he has the shirt for the foreseeable future.

Yep spotted that. Diagonal pass. Puts the pressure on the opposition. Yes 9 times out of 10 they will deal with it. But there is still an option for a move quickly on goal. Also they then have to work the ball up the pitch, and with a high press, we can sometimes gain possession early and unsettle them.

Agreed but I’d feel for Smith in this form is he was just dropped for the shiny new name, footballs the most fickle sport in the world. Even between now and January it could all change.

Things can easily change very quickly, especially in January and February when the pitches can be heavy. If Smith gets injured he’d slot straight in.
And it’s down to him. If he’s banging them in from everywhere in training then GA might start him ahead of Smith anyway.
In a team playing two strikers it’s absolutely right that we have effective cover for both positions
