A cross is only as good as the timing of the runs into the box to get on the end of those crosses. It's as simple as that.

That's kind of my point. I'm not looking for an argument with Kev, I just wondered how the stats were derived.

I've slept and drank a lot since last season but if you like I'll come on after each game this season when he does and tag you in a description of his performance.

The amount of time you see a decent cross and remark that that was begging for the likes of Bobby or Hanson on the end of it. I think it's a bit of both in that you need a cross and a good run for it to work but generally id say the full back or winger is doing his job if he's consistently putting the ball in the right areas. Upto strikers to be taking advantage of the good service

I was in agreement with your original post about crosses because I felt that last season our runs into the box were poor, although that was by no means our only weakness.

To be honest I've slept and drunk a lot since yesterday's game.

I thought Hendrie did ok in terms of putting crosses in the box. There was one game end of season when he put in a dangerous cross, got it straight back. Put in another right on the money and we scored. Forgotten the game.

Hendries name mentioned loads for crosses in match reports here.

Glad I hadn’t been imagining stuff. The stats quoted earlier sound bollocks. Looked at the last half dozen games……

    Tranmere (1-1) - set up Walker’s goal.
Sutton (4-1) - set up Vernam goal
carlisle (2-0) - his crosses set up two good Walker chances

    he’s fine for L2.

Agree with you and a lot on here, that Luke Hendrie is a reasonable right back. We will not be signing another right back until Threlkeld leaves. Our second reserve right back is Finn Cousin-Dawson. We just cannot accommodate four right backs in the squad, which does have a limit on the number of Senior players and of course the budget!

    Not seen the news then?

We've signed another right back mate.

I don't think either Ridehalgh or Hendrie let us down in any match last season. Both are good enough to be starters.

The best two full backs in l2 won't get us promoted but the best central midfield two, keeping the ball, might
And how do we know that Hendrie doesn't deliver that 50% of the time, but gets let down by poor judgment from the man attacking tge ball.

That's his point, and I agree.

Glad to see you're back. Now don't go all Fordy on us and answer the question :grinning:.

Our friendly little spat apart it's a serious question. How do the guys who came up with those stats define a successful cross

If you watch him closely , which I was especially since MH arrived on the scene , he doesn’t hit a dangerous cross any more than 1/10, but of course that’s an estimate, but compared to Ridehalgh it’s a no brainer. Why do we think MH has invested in a RB that can cross a ball? I suggest that speaks volumes to back up my theory USG?

I also have another theory . I'm guilty of this too. If we rate a player we tend to see mostly the good stuff he does. If we don't rate him we tend to focus on the bad stuff

They don’t, but ask yourself this , which I just posed to USG. Why has MH just signed a new RB this afternoon from a League above who can cross the ball. Does that speak volumes and supports my theory that apparently our Manager fully agrees with, it’s certainly not for cover.

Yes of course it’s friendly by the way .

You have the advantage of watching on ifollow. I only get to see it once, and that's normally after three pints
