Sorry but I have to disagree on Songo'o. I think he probably will play. This was a new partner for him at CB and they were playing against a team who have just come down from the Championship, and may not have done they not had a points deduction.

 

And how players have the quality are we gonna face next season ???

Well , i thought i would sleep on it before making any comments on yesterday.
Keeper looks decent , commands his area , good shot stopper.
Both full backs first half were way off . Especially Staunton who was constantly beaten and both goals came from his side.
Platt is no Paudie . look slow and uncomfortable
Sonogo was his usual self putting his body in the way
Smallwood was tidy enough, East is very light wait , Elliot Watt from A couple of years ago . Jake young showed a good turn of pace and beat players quite regular but little end product , Chapman had a lot of the ball and put in a couple of reasonable crosses. Walker had a couple of moments, we all know his qualities . Angol was non existent , tried to feed off scraps and was marked out of the game.
We looked better for a while after the wholesale changes at half time. Foulds stiffened the left back position and linked up well down the left. Threlkeld though. looked have got worse if that was possible, what a poor signing he has been. Kelleher needs to move back down to the conference, he is way out of his depth. Osadebe and Harratt both looked tidy and will play there part this season. Cook looked lean and i do not think we should be looking to move him on, he will score goals given the right services. My praise goes to Scales , who tried to make things happen was always looking for the ball and is full of energy, i hope this is a breakthrough season for him. Pointon and Wood were ok, hard to judge young lads on yesterday.
We need another right back, obvious that beyond Hendrie we are weak. not certain of Sutton there.
Left back Rideaulgh and Foulds are good enough.
Centre half's hard to say as we did not see Critchlow or Odusina
MIdfield looks ok , we have a few options . As always i think goals scored could be our problem , Harratt is an unknown with lots of potential . Angol could reach double figures , but can he stay fit. Walker will chip in with a good half a dozen. Cook can get mid to high teens and no way would i let him leave unless something better is coming through the door first and i do not think this Oliver chap is the answer. Work still to be done i think.
For all there troubles Derby still turned out a decent team, Mendez lainge , murdered Staunton . Craig Forsyth similar with FCD and but for points deducted they would have finished well up the championship table.

 

The first part we may disagree , but I do have a small inkling I know what Derby’s history is . They are a mid table CC team playing against our back up defence . It’s as simple as that really.

Hendrie has played right back for us but he was playing centre back at Hartlepool.

Sure, he can "fill in" or "do a job" but can we just get a ruddy proper right back in?

 

Forsyth was with us for seven games on loan . Can’t say I remember him at all!

 

I know you watched the game. Just your first comment was Hendrie is back up only and then went onto slate or fullbacks (and rightfully so on yesterdays showing). Both our first choice full backs are head and shoulders above what we saw yesterday. I do genuinely think Hendrie will be first choice RB this coming season.

 

The new fellow from Barrow was all over the shop. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. Goalie looks ace buy. City MOM

 

Imho Hendrie is back up only , but yes the rest we agree on . All fullbacks on show yesterday were poor and that is being kind.

If Hendrie was to be first choice RB then what is there in reserve……That’s the worry!!

 

Not sure that's true. It was clear that neither Platt and Songo'o had played together. Neither knew who was following which player or covering which area. It takes time for a centre back pairing to work well together. If those two are first choice they will need more matches to get used to each other!

 

I do agree it is a worry and I think yesterday will have shown MH he needs to address it, unless he is thinking a back 3

 

I think the starting centre backs are yet to be determined and we need the right full backs/wing backs for whatever system Hughes decides to play - don't want to be harsh but Staunton really needs to progress further pretty quickly as he is treading quicksand and FCD is a CB or nothing, he constantly is not aware enough as a FB

 

He’s never really had a bad game in his two spells. He’s a solid 6-7/10 every week versus other right backs 4-5/10.

 

Totally agree. Ridehalgh is our best left back since Meredith.

 

I do just about. He was here under Parkinson. He was pretty crap too. Surprised he’s carved out a career with Derby since we had him.

 

Until we sort out our full backs we could be in for a long season.

 

How did the rest of the team play according to your “heard” source?
