Bournemouth have a billionaire Russian owner. You can run a tight ship and have success relative to that but eventually money makes the difference. The more of it the more of a difference you'll eventually make.

The Bournemouth post code has almost 500k population including Poole which is like a suburb of Bournemouth. Poole has a population of 150k. The Bournemouth Poole Christchurch area is really densely populated and mostly within a20 min drive. I spend a lot of time down there these days and was really surprised. The fact is, even with the success they've had they haven't grown much as a club although a small ground doesn't help. You don't see many Bournemouth shirts down there either.

Spot on. He's gone as far as he can, crowds never improve, new stadium now appears off the agenda as I understand, existing stadium is very poor and clearly gets no attention (and some on here think VP is bad).
I think he has had enough of the lack of success he hoped he would get and many in Peterborough have seen through his endless chat. Can't blame him for wanting time out and wish him well with family time or whatever but like others I don't get the love in.

I don't see anywhere in the post that compares Peterborough's potential at all. WW is simply saying DMac has reached the glass ceiling and finally realised it.

They also signed Fraser for 400K and Elphick & Grabban for 300K each that season they got Ritchie in L1.

Their rise was completely done by buying the leagues they were in. They took Kenwyne Jones on loan and paid all his £35K a week salary in the champ as well as £3m for Callum Wilson before the FFP rules became a real thing in the champ.

Helped create this yo-yo between clubs that can afford to buy the champ, but don't want to blow their cash completely to stay in the PL. Them, Fulham, Norwich, West Brom, probably add Burnley to that now who can spend 20M in the champ and hope that team can do well in the prem with a few signings. If you're lucky enough to go up with low budgets, you end up doing what Huddersfield did and Forest had to, and buy pretty much a new team.

Not really interested in that right now.

Darragh has been stuck in his ways for some time, constantly appointing the same managers, rigidly sticking with the same 'sell your best players' policy, being unable to gamble on the club progressing organically because they're now seen as a selling club who don't keep quality players for more than two seasons.

I get that we'll probably sell over-achieving players too, but it's not our entire business model - I'd be extremely disappointed if we sold Andy Cook in January for a million if it threatened to derail our promotion push. MacAnthony wouldn't be able to sell fast enough, though, and invest in non-league starlets that may or may not work out.

There's no reason whatsoever for Peterborough to still be a yo-yo side - they've got the resources and the capability to perform in the Championship, but their model is holding them back.

Sure, Rupp has been a disastrous failure, but we've landed on our feet for the time being - and I want to ride this train a little longer.

He’s a 32 year old League 2 striker who’s spent most of his career in non league.

If someone offered a million quid for Cook, Sparks would drive him there himself.
We’d get promotion without Cook and have a million to spend in league 1

I agree, his ambition is limited to the Championship and he does it by gambling (which to be fair has paid off) on transfer fees. His luck wont last forever and at some point those gambles will fail.

In terms of managers' he just sticks to the same few, appoint McCann, sack him, appoint Ferguson, sack him repeat. Both have had three stints there and he replaced the manager on average every 15 months.

It's not the perfect club it's made out to be, and they would be lost without Barry Fry,

A valid point but I think andy cook and a million quid made everyone's eyes pop out haha.

Part of me thinks he would do well for us up to a point, but another part of me is onboard with what yourself and others are saying.

Having said all this, if we were suddenly up for sale I'd take someone like Darragh who understands football than another non entity that takes six years to get his house in order.

Come on, are we seriously comparing the potential of Posh to that of Bradford City?
He got them to the Championship and still the crowds didn’t come. The fanbase simply isn’t there.
It’s like comparing Mansfield to Notts Forest.
With the right backing we’d have a very good chance of being a stable Championship club with full houses every week

You need to go back and have a look how much money Bournemouth actually spent to reach the PL.

Their wages were astronomical and even spent £600,000 on Matt Ritchie 10 years ago in league one!

I’ll agree I don’t know how Bournemouth have achieved it. Every dog can have its day in the sun but I didn’t expect them to go back up once they got relegated.
Swindon though? That was 25 years ago.
Huddersfield were lucky to see the PL and even luckier to stay up but now they’re down they’ll go the way we did, to the basement where dogs live
