They said on 6 o'clock news that the number of people in their 40s to be vaccinated is much bigger than any of the previous vaccination groups.
Plus, they are holding back some vaccine to ensure that all those already vaccinated can get their second jab with the 12 week effective window.
These two factors explain why they are proceeding incrementally with the 40s rather than doing them all in one cohort.

Anyone else noticed...yeah, deaths are well down but cases at 2.5k daily mean that at this rate close on 1 million people a year are still being infected.......not good is it..?

depends what you class as good and acceptable. Does it matter if loads catch it if very few die?

Don't suppose it does, can't really evaluate between asymptomatic and death but shows its still quite virulent ..

I’ve just done some, granted quick internet research so can’t say how accurate it is. But if we maintain around an average of 30 deaths per day from Covid that’s around 11,000, companies with Flu which usually kills 17,000-30,000(on a bad year) per year. I couldn’t find stats on how many people in the UK get flu per year but in the US it is around 8% per year, 1,000,000 is way below 8% in the UK if we compare like for like. Again this might be wrong or I might have read it wrong but if we maintain them levels I’d says that’s not bad, flu doesn’t cause lockdowns and restrictions so hopefully it shows the vaccines are working.

I understand why daily stats are shown as we’ve been in a world wide pandemic, but if we showed daily stats for other illnesses at this stage there’s probably others out there that look even scarier. Eventually we’re going to have too stop publishing these daily updates like with other illnesses, and if the stats stay at these levels or slightly higher or lower then most would just go about their lives as we do with other illnesses.

Not wanting to be picky about flu deaths but it averages at around 17,000 fluctuating between less than 2,000 up to 29,000. This was between 2014-2019.

So daily average would be about 45 for the average, ranging from 5 to 80 a day

Current 7 day average for Covid is 22, so not to bad but as with any illness there will be ups and downs. Trouble is we won’t know if the vaccines working properly until restrictions are lifted other wise it could be the restrictions lowering deaths not the vaccine.

It appears 16k have tested positive in the last week, this is from 7m tests.

If we tested how many people got a cold on a daily basis I wonder what the rate would be.

As it stands if people with the vaccine can catch it and pass it on but don't die from it then we should feel relatively safe. We are never going to stop people getting it the aim is to ensure that people don't die to it.

For me, thing about the vaccine is that it has to be a personal choice. I have had both Moderna shots and would hope many more people choose to do the same. At the same time, recognizing the short period of time the vaccines have been available and by default, the limited testing and ability to accurately assess future issues, I have no problem with people choosing to "wait".
However, those of you who are hesitant because of Bill Gates, Google and any other shitferbrains bollocks need to give yer head a shake and maybe look for all those illegally cast votes. Oh, they're still at it over here, all this bollocks about people wearing masks are as bad as flashers. F ING Fox news.

Oh, hope season tickets go up a few quid, help with the promotion push.

Surely they're keeping track of the data somewhere to be able to compare the rates of people vaccinated against the rates of unvaccinated?

It will be a combination of both at the moment but there must be information to separate to two factors out.

The crucial bit will be what the reaction is when the number of infections go up after the restrictions are lifted. Will people panic even if it isnt resulting in significant deaths?

People have got so used to looking at the number of positive cases that it will take some time to break that. The problem is we do not know if the deaths will go up if cases spike, they shouldn’t if enough are vaccinated but until a couple of weeks after we will not know. If deaths do go up it will be too late and the government will be attacked for doing nothing and letting the ‘bodies pile high’ but if the suddenly respond then why have we been vaccinated?

Your last part will be interesting to see and to try answer it I think there will be a mixed reaction, as with anything in life. Sadly it may become political as well. I think even if infections sky rocket but deaths and also importantly number of those hospitalised remains low, that should be enough to prove that the vaccines are working against it. That said I might be giving to much credit out and the powers that be might shit there pants and shut everything down again. If the vaccines work and make it that those infected get a bad cold at worst even if they’re vulnerable, then we need to get away from giving out regular updates.

Shouldn't matter if we aren't letting people from india in to the country.

Let also be honest here, India have had people gathering for religious festivals and cricket matches, that's why the virus has taken hold over there.

No doubt it will become political and that's my worry really.

I do worry that the powers that be will panic and start restricting again - especially when the opposition and the media will no doubt be making a big thing about and increase and needing to act quickly. I hope they can hold their nerve and see how things play out fully.
