That is the hope - to get ahead of this. Boosters already in prep as I understand it.

We need to do that globally to end the pandemic. At least there is recognition of that at a government level (that's as positive as I get about them lol). The NHS have run the vaccine roll out - perhaps we'll clap them again to say thankyou?

I will do my best to precis from Thursday.

Europe seems to be getting worse.

We need to get back to normality here asap and I think it is probably worth stopping travel to and from the UK until Europe has caught up with the vaccine. The state if the UK economy should take top priority once the vaccines are sorted, and if that means no holidays for most of the year then so be it.

Our Successful vaccination program has meant the real threat of another lockdown will come from not stopping the importing it from other countries who have not protected their population with an effective vaccination program themselves,

On the contrary I hope they don't. For 2 reasons really....

I don't think it's possible to stop ALL travel in and out of those countries for logistical purposes. Even having small exceptions opens up opportunities removes the total protection that a ban gives.

Secondly, and more importantly, if they do actually ban travel long term when will they allow us that right again? When the whole world is vaccinated? We shouldn't be begging for our liberties to be taken away when the return of them is unclear or vague.

It's also worth remembering that we're not just talking about getting away for a two week holiday. A significant amount if people gave friends and family dotted around other countries where restrictions on visiting long term are clearly distressing.

Perhaps we should all realise that this is a global crisis, wishing and hoping it will go away ain't gonna happen....

Whilst I do not disagree with what you are saying, my outlook was based on what is best for the UK. I want everything opened back up tomorrow and I am frustrated in the moving of the goalposts from getting the most at risk protected to now waiting till basically all the adult population is protected.

To me getting everything open and staying open trumps holidays to highly infected areas at this point.

I'm against the extension of emergency powers when over 50% of the adult population including all those who account for 99% of all the deaths have been offered the vaccine. You know that they will use these powers to come down on certain areas for mild increases in rates. Last year Bradford was put into lockdown for a rate of about 50 per 100k which led to the whole of the Bradford district living where you couldn't have a family member in your back garden which is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm with you guys with regards travel restrictions but if the government stopped travel to places that still had major Covid problems imagine what a boost holidaying in the UK could do for the economy theres always next year for France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Netherlands, Malta, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Latvia, Ireland, Hungary, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, Belgium and Austria :p.

It goes. Both me and the mrs had a reaction - sweats and chills and inability to concentrate for me. Took 2-3 days to fully recover.

Travel restrictions aren't the issue - a strong quarantine policy on return is. We have had neither. We have already imported the current strains we are supposedly worrying about and debating. We have only blocked direct travel from a small number of countries ignoring the fact that people just take a connecting flight.

Now is the time for stringent measures at the borders because of the fantastic vaccine roll out numbers are down and world beating methods of hunting out new variants we can squash down this virus. So let’s sacrifice foreign travel for just one more year unless it’s vital for the economy

Having never been abroad and wouldn't go if you paid me covid or no covid I am all for holidaying in the UK, but if you owned a b&b just now how would you feel about complete strangers from other parts of the country staying with you..?
I wouldn't be comfortable for sure...

Living in a seaside town I am pleased for the businesses but a bit apprehensive about the invasion of the hordes

I'm sure B&B wont be selective with regards their customers their business is all about maximising their availability I cant see them turning business away because they dont know the customer.
There is no doubt the UK offers some great destinations, the only trouble with the UK is it tends to be very expensive, as a Yorkhire man I like value for money so for me a fortnight in any warm climate Egypt one of my favourites wall to wall sunshine from dawn till dusk all drinks and food included for a little more that a week in the UK where the weather is so unreliable you can get all 4 seasons weather in a day, if it means 12 months before I can return to some sort of normality I'll wait.

Not a snob at all I like to see visitors here but not the virus they bring with them. We were sailing through the lockdown until until October break last year the town was packed and a couple of weeks later we had one of the highest rates in the country leading to the police touring the streets telling us to stay indoors. So no snobbery from me I’m a Bradford lad

Same as me, i had the jab at the jacobs well car park on fri midday and the first 12 hours were fine, whats all the fuss about!
Then went to bed and nausea kicked in followed by the fever- you could cook bacon and eggs on my face cheeks.
Sat felt lethargic but Sunday was much better.
