No no, you weren't. The statement was simply "Anyone entering the country should be quarantined in a hotel."

So once we start making exceptions it is no longer a case of "anyone". We can then get rid of the idea of a completely closed border once we agree that this is impossible and it is necessary to keep it open. The distinguishes us from Australia who don't have French lorry drivers wandering around their service stations. When you're chasing zero-covid then any outside person can affect this, once anyone comes into the country uncontrolled then it's blown.

Also lets not forget that anyone fling in from anywhere in the globe does have to quarantine for 10 days. Just because it isn't in a hotel let's not ignore it. While the ideal is suppression rather than eradication you can build in for the fact that a minority won't comply.

The new variants are out of our control and are just as likely to be created in a single person in Kent (as apparently happened in the change prior to Christmas) as they are to be brought in on a flight. They are simply just another way for the fear to be continued even when things are going well. Of course they have the potential to throw things off course but we can't build a whole strategy around that.

As for the excess deaths - I haven't seen that they are. I actually find the excess deaths for quite a lot of countries very difficult to find. But as I said earlier, the line between harsh restrictions and the death count is not a straight line - other wise Sweden would be the worst in Europe - so the fact they aren't indicates other factors are in play. Most of the Western Countries are loosely in the same sort of ball park when you account for population size and density, age of population. quality of health care, etc and we are within that range.

Couldn’t make it up. Half of Europe stopping Oxford vaccinations due to 37 people out of 17 million getting blood clots. That is lower than pregnant people getting blood clots and actually lower than the population as a whole, so if anything it reduces blood clots.

even so they are still complaining it hasn’t been delivered enough of the vaccines.

And even the EU's own regulator is saying the vaccine is safe.

The EU, or at least certain countries within the EU, are doing themselves no favours with some of their actions.

Can anyone actually make sense of the EUs vaccine stance other than politics? Put the AZ vaccine on hold because of their concern about blood clots yet the Pfizer jab hasn't stopped, I mean we talking about 28 people in 10 million. SO they pause usage of the vaccine in several member states. Now today they are threatening to block exports of that very AZ vaccine they stopped using.... Is this the USSR in another guise?

Now Von der Leyen is threatening to stop exports of the vaccine to the UK to safeguard scarce doses for their own citizens facing a third wave, there is vaccine available for countries that are prepared to accept the word of the experts and use it on their citizens, some of the EU countries are not prepared to use it on their own citizens for reasons above blood clotting there are more than happy to make sure others cant by withholding the vaccine ,and were told the EU are our friends thank God there not our enemies.

I think most right minded people can see just what the EU are, their citizens will remember this in the up and coming elections, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron are on the slide and on their way out if the polls and French & German media are to be believed.

And now they have announced they will be restricting exports to countries that are all ready well on with vaccinations, so basically the UK.

just at same time it is leaked there is going to be a big reduction in vaccine availability from week after next

Its just hypocrisy they won't use the vaccine so they will make sure they have the power to say who does by with holding the vaccines.

They wont use it themselves but think the better option is to destroy it rather than give it to any other country, as you say playing with lives.

It just helps them hide their shit show of a vaccine roll out and someone else to pass the blame on for their incompetence. Problem is it that it then casts doubt into peoples mind with half a brain cell over here.

If I was an EU citizen I'd be making damn sure that I wasn't voting for Von Der Leyen at their next democratic elections.

I could be wrong but think that's what @Aaron Baker@Aaron Baker was implying, with his "democratic vote" comment ;).

BBC saying there should have been 5 million vaccines delivered to the UK from India, Matt Hancock saying the UK remains on course to vaccinate those aged 50 and above by 15 April

The Serum Institute, the world's largest manufacturer of vaccines which has agreed to supply 10 million doses for the UK, has delivered half of those and it will "try to supply more later, based on the current situation and the requirement for the government immunisation programme in India".
