    With respect, how does a girl on the door physically stop a family walking in? Other than offering masks, she should not be expected to be placed in such a position as to even contemplate risking verbal abuse, or worse?

    I don't know whether it's just the pandemic which has made me notice it but it seems to be a prevalent outlook at the moment that people just ignore any negative aspects of their opinions.

    Of course everyone would like all key workers to be vaccinated, along with everyone else that could be exposed to it through their work. But there are repercussions of that.

    There seems to be a narrative of once the top 9 categories are done Boris is looking to send vaccine to other countries.

    That's fine on two basis.

    Those who haven't had a vaccine due to not being in the 9 categories do not fall under different rules to those who have been vaccinated.

    The country is not confined to lockdown measures that don't resemble some sense of normality.

    Otherwise put out own house in order first.

    According to front page of the Times this morning, if everything goes to plan, the government plans to open outdoor sporting events to crowds by the end of May......and have told UEFA that we would ne happy to host extra games or even the whole tournament!!!

    Some have got themselves into such a tizz that even the mention of lifting lockdown has them reaching for the usual scaretactics, even worried to open the door incase the virus flys in at the first opportunity. To be honest they are a pain in the arse.

    The early information suggest that restrictions will be eased in four main stages:
    Stage 1 - Monday 8 March (with a second phase on Monday 29 March);
    Stage 2 - Monday 12 April;
    Stage 3 - Monday 17 May; and
    Stage 4 - Monday 21 June.

    That's 5 weeks between each main stage, four weeks to analyse results plus one week's notice to confirm the next stage.

    So, schools first, then an easing of outdoor restrictions. Expect indoor pubs to be last.

    I don't think it's that at all.

    I think that, after a year of this nightmare, many people would rather we have a couple more months of restrictions to be absolutely sure that this is the last lockdown, rather than see another resurgence before most people are vaccinated.

    And people will have their own indivdual reasons for differing from your laissez faire view. I have two kids whose weddings were postponed from last year. Their lives are on hold as a result. The weddings are rescheduled for this June. I want them to be able to have proper weddings where everyone can socialise reasonably normally, not some half-assed affair with 30 people and no proper evening do. I appreciate that may be seen as selfish but, as I said, we all have our own personal reasons behind our attitude to risk over the approaching months.

    Maybe a bit flippant but I'm sure there is some element of that even if it's a tiny proportion. If you're getting 80% wages to sit at home what's the rush to change? I know I wouldn't be.

    But yeah on the more general point it's not a binary choice. A couple more months of restrictions wouldn't guarantee it being the last lockdown any more than the positive news about the vaccine does. The slight leveling off of infections shows that to some degree.

    What I don't get though is people seeing the good results from the vaccines and still being resistant. There is no logic to that in my eyes unless you are completely risk averse in life.

    Completely agree about the wedding and things, same here, I just want to see my daughters to be honest and anything that stops that being 'illegal' is good, I don't know what life situation people who are wanting to elongate lock down could possibly be in though. It's baffling.

    Seems far too slow to me. The group responsible for 99% of all deaths will be vaccinated in the coming month.

    There are people who are scared to death of the virus and believe so should everyone else, and there are those who are loving the good life being paid for nothing.

    Seems overly slow to me but it is what it is. Suppose with the criticism they receive for any freedom that they give I should have expected it.

    The one thing that gives me hope that they're not going completely cautious is the wording of one of the 'tests' (i.e. Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS) and I hope this follows through in the final wording and actions. This would mean that a rise in infections in itself is not a cause for delaying the reopening timeline. With the vaccines stopping serious infection but maybe not stopping low level infections I think this is an important distinction.

    How many people do you actually know who are as you put it ''love the good life being paid for nothing''. Everyone I know is either working remotely or working as usual from their work place, I don't know anybody now that is furloughed.

    Look at the number of business that have to close that will give you an idea. Just because you don't know anyone doesn't make it fact.

    I work as an accountant, I know various business where lots of people are on furlough.

    I doubt there are very many of those. Far fewer than those who are really struggling because their businesses are failing or their furlough payments aren't sufficient to meet their outgoings, or they're self employed and having problems getting adequate support payments.

    I think there's an age thing going on as well. I'm 64. I don't know how my body would react to Covid but I'd rather not find out. My days of going out on the town are long gone. I and all of my friends have been very cautious throughout the pandemic. We did relax a bit in August/September time - went for the odd meal out and started going into local shops for essentials - but otherwise we've been very careful. I haven't set foot in a proper supermarket since last March - we're buying everything online. But I'm sure if you are younger, used to a more active social lfe and have been going to work or shopping normally, then the restrictions seem more draconian and will impact you harder.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm sick of lockdown. I'm retired and going out on the same local walks every day is really getting to me. I want to be able to visit friends and my kids and go out for meals, go to live gigs, play live music with others and visit different places. But, from my personal perspectve (and I accept it's somewhat selfish) I'd rather have the zombie half life for a bit longer and then go back to a much more normal way of life than risk a resurgence scuppering that.

    It was 2.4 million people as of October - there should have been an update to this in January (they do it quarterly) but it hasn't come out yet as far as I can see.

    I know of people who are working for supermarkets whilst being on furlough and they are receiving wages + 80% furlough all within the law.
