Time to get the army out imo get them out of their barracks and on the streets and get us properly shut down, so many people will continue to just go along like there’s nothing going on. The country needs a strict lockdown before we end up like Italy, we need to be proactive not reactive as we have been up to this point.

    Agree.

We either do this seriously for 3 months and see what what or not at all.

It has to be done gradually in stages

Week by week the sanctions are getting tougher

I expect a full lock down within 2 weeks

It's a game of chess and the timing needs to be right

Sorry mate disagree. We are on level with Italy where they were at this stage and I believe they had the same let's take it in stages method. Look at them now and they're still struggling to get people to take it seriously.

The spreading isn't waiting for timing and people will lose their minds if this continues for much longer.

For me the message should be full lock down for 3 months then we will see what's what.

I know what you mean but they want folk to catch corona gradually

If there's a 3 month lock down there will be less casualties but once they are released there will be an epidemic again that the NHS cant cope with

They want an amount the nhs can handle until a vaccine is available

That's why they want to smooth the curve... full long term isolation will only work if there is a vaccine at the end of it

Lock down and release.. repeat until a vaccine to smooth the curve

Theres no way they can lockdown for 3 months people would go mad and they wouldnt do it a second time ... probably a month at a time until herd immunity or a vaccine kicks in

Well I think the French agree with me mate.

    @faisalislam
Senior French journo briefed that Macron phoned PM on Friday and said that if UK did not impose serious shutdown measures, French would have no choice but to close border to travellers from UK, & were ready to do so Friday. Says Elysee refers to UK policy as “benign neglect”.

    - A vaccine is around 12 months away. We need the anti body as too many are second guessing if they have it or not but we need to stop the spread and that means shutting down London mainly and everywhere then so be it.

Our numbers are increasing and unlike main hot countries many seem to be dying in Europe. This isn't a time for brownie points or playing games.

My feeling in truth is that Boris thinks everyone will get it at some point and you're right he's trying to make sure the NHS can cope but we need to stop the spread to enable that. Boris needs to get more testing, talk to hotels to let NHS and others use the beds up and down the country, talk to the British Gas of this world to freeze bills, stop council tax for months.

Be serious for 3 months and stop being so weak. Seriously if we end up like Italy that will be so bad as he would of called us for being so weak.

I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for deciding what stage occurs when, because unless China and South Korea have a flare up in about two weeks time, it's the wrong methodology to begin with.

The thing is I'm not sure comparing countries is really all that useful as everyone is doing a slightly different thing.

We have stopped basically testing everyone who thinks they have it because its time-consuming, expensive and just causes a backlog of getting tests processed. It also puts more people at risk than just saying that if you think you have symptoms isolate yourself.

While others are focusing more on testing on who has it at that moment we are looking to refine a test to show who has had it because in many ways that is way more useful. First of all, it allows you to get a better idea of who has had it and when herd immunity starts being a factor and also people who get it without any real symptoms are much more useful in producing treatments and vaccines than those who get it really badly

    too late.
But we don't currently have the anti body and yes it will improve things a little when we do but we don't.

So due to a lack of testing are we not wasting the NHS time, 911 time with people thinking that they've it when they haven't?

In a nutshell we are doing nothing until the antibody arrives and it could be the reason why our numbers are so go damn high and on Italy level.

Why can't we do more testing? Are we a 3rd world country? We need to do more testing in my mind.

To carry a test out we have to either send people who think they may have it into hospitals or doctors offices potentially infecting staff and patients or we have to send people into their homes to do it. When most people will be perfectly fine if they just isolate themselves why put them in a position to infect others?

And there is already a 4-5 day turn around on tests without creating more of a backlog. It's more important to be testing those showing serious symptoms to they can get the correct and best treatment (as there are other things, things which can be just as much of a risk of death in certain people if not treated correctly).

Mate the NHS don think have to do testing that's been proved with footballers getting tested left right and centre.

The testing is simple hence why Trump has set up deals with Walmart to do testing.

People are not taking this seriously because you've z listers on GMB coming on claiming they have it.

Test, anti body and vaccine in that order for me.

The NHS does need to do the testing if it's going to be free as private testing is costing north of £350. And those celebs are just making it harder for those that actually need a test as its almost certainly being processed by the same labs but someone paying £350 is going to get pushed to the top of the queue in processing by any private company

And yes its not the most complex test to carry out, it needs a basic level of training to do it but doing it on yourself is going to be a little tricky even with training so you still need to have contact with others to have it done. Trump has them infecting everyone in a Walmart when they should be self-isolating

But Trump and his acolytes never go anywhere near Walmart (see peopleatwalmart.com). Then again, a significant portion of his support is a bit trailer trash and they'll be loving it.

Some food filtering through to supermarkets, with watchful staff ensuring limits are adhered.
Couldn't belive my eyes when an individual had at least 20 boxes of paracetamol on a self serving check out; he was spotted and they were removed.

Thank you. I am well, we have now been in the house for 2 weeks. The only time we go out is in the morning we get out for a nice walk for 30 mins but we don’t see anybody or very rarely. We have a nice garden, which we are using as well. Normally on this day I see my son and grandchildren, but obviously that is not possible. My son is a Police Officer so he is working none stop atm. He arrived yesterday, left me flowers and a present outside and waved at me through the window, I left him a couple of scones that I had just baked. Made me cry a little I have to be honest.

I am keeping in touch with family through WhatsApp group etc.. My shopping is coming via Ocado who have given me a regular slot which is great. The butcher is also delivering which is really great. So we are being well catered for. The Dog and Gun near us will also deliver, we are lucky.

The news coming out of Italy is extremely worrying. I am very concerned that ppl are not taking notice about keeping your distance, and staying at home. This is not a virus that you can take lightly.

the checkout wouldn’t let them put them through in one transaction anyway, plus the better systems notice a second transaction straight after with the same items.

but yes it is helpful if there are enough people on the self serve to stop it
