I might hold fire on the Forest Green tickets, i could be dead within a week. That money could go toward the funeral.

There were over 26000 flu associated deaths in the UK in 2017\18, the figures from the NHS. Life went on, schools didn't shut, the deaths didn't play havoc with the world economy, yet now Leeds has a load of wackos walking around in face maskes they don't know how to wear anyway!

It's plain bat shit crazy modern hysteria.

A bit of hysteria is not such a bad thing imo. It gets people to be diligent. Basics such as handwashing and covering your face when you sneeze, are now at the forefront of everyones mind - a simple hygiene measure that is often overlooked.
The thing with 26k flu deaths, is how many were avoided by having a vaccine? As yet, this Corona virus doesn't have one, and is spreading at a rapid rate. That's what is causing the concern among medical bods.
I also agree that social media is amplifying the whole situation, but that's just how we live these days. Imagine if there had been FB during the time of the black death where 20 million died :) Actually, if word was spread quickly about it, then probably the plague wouldn't have killed so many. As I said, hysteria, as long it doesn't reach panic levels, is not so negative.

OR it could just be someone making it up who wants the stock market to crash ;)

We can joke and dismiss it, I have. But there’s been 6 deaths from that cruise ship docked in Japan so far. Imagine if it catches hold in a hospital or care home, it’s going to be deadly.

India and China are building a couple of hundred runways in the next ten years but we've stopped the third runway at Heathrow. That'll show em.

So, the chances of a vulnerable aged person laid up in hospital in Wuhan dying, are 2-4%. But the chances of a similar person dying on a tightly packed cruise ship of over 3700 holidaymakers is 0.16%. Well we know where to self isolate don't we? An all inclusive caribbean cruise.

We know it's bad, a virus like this has been long time coming, we've been lucky because it won't be the last either but a normal healthy person doesn't have much to worry about in the very unlikely event of them becoming infected.

Heard that if it hits undeveloped countries, then that is when it will really take off. North Korea for example. They have said they don't have any cases yet, but that is hard to believe. Such is the state of their hospitals, it would really take hold.
I'm going to a wine festival in Lisbon, and traditionally that is full of Chinese buyers. I've just received an email that all participants coming from China and Northern Italy have been cancelled. Quite a big chunk of the buying market that, so it's hit this even quite hard - even if they are being over cautious. I am already seeing myself having to try wines whilst wearing a mask :)
But alcohol cures everything right? ;)

France has put a ban on any public gatherings of over 5,000.
I take it they will include sporting events.
With them being just over the water i wonder how soon UK will follow suit.
If the number of new cases keep creeping up.

does that include shopping centres? Bet Meadowhall has more than that in, even Broadway has 1000 parking spaces that were mostly full today plus others would be close to 5000 people

Nah, what did Napoleon used to say, a nation of shopkeepers.

    Gotta keep the shops open.

that is correct, but the Paris half marathon has been cancelled?

    Things are changing daily though.

Another 3 confirmed cases today and now a week wait for test results, so I would expect a spike in the next few days. The more people are tested the more positive results will come through
