And here comes the blame shifting from the government. It’s started with the general public and is now moving onto the care homes. Let’s see who’s next.

    Disgusting mate.

I keep saying this government keeps doing own goals.

Clap for carers then blame them? Disgraceful.

Wonder what @Bronco@Bronco thinks? Wonder if he's ready to admit he got his vote wrong yet. Boris Johnson is a liability.

Typical Tory response. Much like Hillsborough, blame everyone else but themselves and take absolutely no share of the responsibility.

Here’s a timeline of how will it pan out for the next few years.

Now is not the time for an enquiry...Announce enquiry...No comment while enquiry is on going...Delay releasing the findings of the enquiry...Leak a bit of the findings that blame the bin men...Roll eyes and tell everyone we need to look forward.

The PM knows there will be calls from all sides for some kind of Inquiry into how the Govt has dealt with the crisis. This imo is the Govt accelerating the blame game and trying to avoid its responsibilities for the shambles. I heard the head of the social care association speaking about this earlier and he was incandescent about the Govt trying to blame them for the additional deaths of people in care homes. As he said, it was the Govts policy to release people from hospitals into care homes without testing. It was the Govt which didn't provide sufficient stocks PPE for care home staff and it was the Govt that promised more testing for staff and residents in care homes and so far nobody in care homes has had more than 1 test in 6 weeks. I don't understand how the PM can now blame care homes themselves for any of that.

Some times, the Govt just has to hold its hands up and acknowledge that they got some things wrong during the pandemic and not try to point the finger at others for their own shortcomings.

I don't think the government should be playing any sort of blame game to be honest but is it really that strange to suggest that the people on the ground have to take a little bit of responsibility if they were knowingly sending contagious people back into a vulnerable community.

At the time we heard lots about any shortages of PPE for NHS staff in the media so if the medical professionals disagreed with the protocols they could obviously have made a lot of noise about it but I didn't hear anything of a scandal at the time.

From the outside looking in it seems that both the government and the medical experts either underestimated the risks of their actions or believed that care homes were better placed to keep people isolated. They do generally have quite thorough existing protocols to contain contagious infection in their normal day to day work anyway.

I don't think Boris was specifically blaming the doctors anyway if you take the full quote into account. The shortened quote that they're using in the media makes it sound much worse.

What makes you think that, they have made mistakes without doubt as have all government's, I'll judge this government once a vaccine is found and the death totals from around the world are known.
You'll be glad to hear my Covid test yesterday came back negative good news, any sign of that receipt yet ?.

What it all shows is the ineptness of large parts at the top of the civil service, The politicians may set policy but they rely on the civil service to deliver it, If they do it badly or make a mistake it is the government who will be blamed.
(Hence why Cummings is trying to change it so ability rather than birth and privileged education decides who gets to the top of the civil service )

If an organisation with 100s of highly paid " executives" and 100s of highly paid " precurment manages " failed to see the lack of PPE and other essential items how is that the governments fault ?. Whats the point of having these highly paid staff , if they fail in their basic remit ?.

This terrible pandemic has plenty more twist and turns to come, Australia the country many where using as an example of fast decision making and getting control of the virus has gone into lockdown.

Here's a recap of the key points from Victoria's press conference this afternoon:

    • From midnight tomorrow, metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire, north of Melbourne, will return to stage three restrictions for the next six weeks.
    • That means there are only four reasons to leave home: shopping for supplies, compassionate care, exercise and for work or study.
    • Small gatherings of friends and family at home will not be allowed.
    • Cafes, restaurants and bars will only be allowed to serve takeaway food and drinks.
    • Businesses including gyms, beauty clinics, tattoo parlours and cinemas must shut down again.
    • Only students in Year 11 and 12 will return to classrooms when school holidays end on Sunday.
    • Premier Daniel Andrews says he's spoken to Prime Minister Scott Morrison about the possibility of extending JobKeeper for Victorians who suffer financial hardship.
    • Victoria's Health Minister Jenny Mikakos says elective surgery will still be allowed to continue.
    • The Premier said six weeks was needed to collect accurate data about whether the virus can be brought under control

Sensible decision making based on spikes of cases. Yet we have it still out in the community and unlock the majority of modern life and if people get it, they get it.

Yes but politicians can be removed by the electorate or media, The civil service is permanent with little or no chance of been replaced or removed no matter if poor at the job or mistakes made,

So we look to follow an American model of yes men who are only there based on the PM and will say yes to everything they want. No thanks. It needs a bit of a fix but not this coup style ripping apart Cummings is wanting. Be careful what you wish for

Until Trump the American model had its advantages but in general I would not want that system even if slightly better than the one we have where they get sacked for making mistakes etc, Perhaps instead of been permanent the top of the civil service should be on 3 or 5 year contracts and evaluated on performance in a similar way to most private industry

These are key points you have made made.

The R rate is 0.7 to 0.9 and yest pubs, hairdressers have reopened but the fact reminds we are all told to work from home still if we can and we haven't got people back to stadiums to watch sports etc.

The government mindset now seems to be if you get it then tough.

The point I was making is although Australia was used as an example of how well other governments have done compared with ours, this pandemic has a nasty habit of coming back and kicking you up the arse when things are starting to look positive.
As the government have said many times we the general public have a massive effect on the spreading of this virus stick to the guidelines and we have a chance of keeping the infection rate down, the lock down had to be eased at some point even thought the media were quick to get the people who were not sticking to guide lines all over the TV and in the papers it does look like the vast majority who ventured out behaved as well as they could in the circumstances let's hope there is no second wave, and the situation can be eased even more.

This has to be a publicity stunt.

Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, rapper Kanye West declared his candidacy for US president.

Yet he is a Trump supporter, he obviously thinks he can do a better job.
