There isn’t a news outlet going that wouldn’t have covered this as a scoop. Nothing to do with it being a left leaning paper.

If you’re implying that they’re making this one up, it’s highly unlikely. They might be misbriefed, but this is also fairly unlikely as they wouldn’t splash like this without sufficient confidence.

Where trust in the media goes wrong is the overlays of misjudgment on fact, but it’s rare for a mainstream outlet to broadcast something fabricated. And when it happens, without fail you’ll know about it.

I do wonder if this was a co-ordinated attempt to drag the government through the mud as much as possible.

Somebody knew about these extra details this time yesterday, clearly. And now we’re in the position where a lot of the Conservative cabinet have spent all day going in to bat for him - expending huge amounts of political capital in the process. And now this.

Its the like police throwing out the stinger to catch the stolen vehicle and its just driven straight over it. Like i said earlier, it doesn't matter what your political leaning, you would have to admit this is car crash politics from the conservatives. From a personal point of view, because i don't vote, its quite amusing, but also quite sad that an influental adviser to the prime minister has not only chosen to ignore the advice from the party he works for but to also strenuously deny he has done anything wrong. Starmer is being thrown opportunites left right and centre to tear into the Tories, lets see if he takes them.

This should be the response from any right minded Tory supporter.

    Exactly.
Thousands of families with kids around the country have been struck with Covid 19 and had to somehow just get on with it because of government instruction at the time to stay at home and self isolate for 14 days if anyone in the household has symptoms. No ifs, no buts. Nowhere did that advice say anything about driving 250 miles to sort out childcare. Much less swanning around in a busy tourist town 30 miles away from where you have been forced to admit to be staying.

It's such massive hypocrisy. Who is going to take any guidance from this government seriously if the man who was at the centre of our chaotic pandemic response is allowed to break the rules so blatantly?

If true, then he has to go, no question about.

A woman I work with has most of her family in Brighton. Her mother contracted the virus in a care home but was left in no uncertain terms that she shouldnt travel down to visit her. Her mother sadly lost her fight for life, and for logistical reasons in abiding by lockdown rules, my work colleague decided she shouldnt travel all that way for the funeral, as she wouldnt have been allowed to stay overnight, or so the Government were staying, and it was just too far for her to travel down and back in the day.

I can imagine how she is feeling reading about Cummins this weekend

It beggars belief. Did he drive 270 miles with a child and a sick wife in the car without stopping on the way? Highly unlikely.
If not, where did they stop for toilet breaks and refreshments? How many people did they infect on the way?
It's utterly incredible that the government is trying to make out that this behaviour was within the rules, when thousands of parents have struggled to care for their kids in sickness and isolation because they obeyed the clear and strong message to stay at home if anyone has symptoms.

If i was one of the many thousands fined for breaching lockdown 'advice' the first i would do is rip up the fine and send it back to the authorities in bits.Your ready made get out of jail card is right there courtesy of Dom 'if he can do it so can we'. Not only do they not follow their own advice they think its perfectly acceptable to do so.

It's now being reported that he was seen admiring bluebells at a County Durham beauty spot after he had returned to London. The implication being that he travelled up there a second time. I wonder what essential reason they'll dream up for that little jaunt?

Govt sources saying this is 'innaccurate'. Presumably the same government source that lied about the Durham police visiting his family.

It's almost like you have a switch in your brain that makes you completely ignore the point. Except, of course, you do it on purpose.

I'd love a pound for every time the name Dominic Cummins is hurled back at the police when they struggle to disperse reckless crowds of idiots miles from home this bank holiday weekend. "One rule for us mate..."

Just for clarity, He was walking in the woods by his fathers property as part of his daily exercise which is allowed,
The police did not visit him or the family, his father CALLED THEM to advise he was there and was given security advice,

That did make me laugh to be fair. Looks like Cummings did his apprenticeship at the Alistair Campbell school of spin doctoring.

Come on Trev, even a battle hardened Tory like you can't just brush this under the carpet. Normally I would piss myself laughing at lefties wetting themselves at any opportunity but this time they've got every reason.

Exactly, Dom is Boris's Alistair, had this happened to a member of the opposition my reaction would have been just the same....Oh well, who cares, move on...

Not defending him, If he has broken the law /guidelines he should go, But only based on the facts not the quite substantial witch hunt from the press that has a record of telling miss truths and false reporting when it comes to politics, He is hated by the press and he holds them in contempt so maybe reaping what he has sewn,
( By the way not a Tory )

Would just add this, Until Cummings and or the Government come out with a chronology and full details of his movements then there will questions

Not a Tory Trev? You could be the new poster boy for Boris. As for Cummins, there will be no punishment bar the media getting the chance to make him look a dick for a couple of weeks. People like him, Campbell and Mandelson are untouchable. Doesn't matter what they do, its that rule do as i say not as i do. And as you i hate all the bast@rds.

Probably the best advice. No point losing any sleep over it, it won't make any difference. Just gives the gutter press something to fill their shite papers with.
