I can't think of any industry that'll be hit worse than the airlines.

 

I agree most countries will have to open boarders again or there would be little point in being restricted to 4/5 countries.

I wondered why there weren't pages and pages of posts last few days.
Serious business now; airlines.
Some of them don't help themselves. The issue is that with all the new "travel waivers" and "no change fees if you cancel" rules.
Basically if you change your flight you're ok, if you cancel they will offer a credit only. If they cancel, they will offer a credit but by law, the customer can demand a refund.
A major US airline appears to have removed my scheduled return flight from the schedule in summer. It has gone totally for all dates, not just the one I have booked.
Their flight app is still showing it as good to go. I called them, girl said it's still flying but if I want, I can rebook.
Called Monday , got told it was not showing because it was full, so I asked why it no longer shows for any date. I was transferred to another person who confirmed the flight was cancelled but I hadn't been notified as they were in the process of being rebooked.
In the scheme of things it's no big deal, if the skies and countries are open, I plan on travelling but they are doing their best to avoid refunds by getting customers to either cancel it change flights.

 

It's a confusing and dynamic situation. Keep hearing this word 'unprecedented' and it is, so nobody is an expert in how to play this. Mistakes have been made with the stockpiling of PPE I think everyone would agree. Day to day mistakes and small wins are to be expected though. I've been as critical as anyone about past mistakes but right now in the present time we need to focus on what will help us all.

I don't know Fordy apart from him being a bit Marmite on here but he suggests that he's a business owner (cue carwash jokes) so maybe he has some serious worries about surviving this along with thousands of others.

 

There's nothing wrong with a good old car wash joke.

 

Correct to a degree, although the industry will take anything it can get at this point. People are still booking flights, but based almost entirely on speculation, which is less than ideal for an airline.

I've just read on the BBC website that a third of people hospitalised with Coronavirus have died. That has shocked me. I had no idea that figure would be so high.
