That's not scary, it makes sense. Building these around the country in major cities.

Problem is will they have the equipment any time soon?

Our firm is now working entirely from home, so i’m back in Bradford. Close to home is right though - out of a firm of 600, we have 6 confirmed cases, of which 3 are now hospitalised, 17 suspected cases and an employee who’s brother died earlier this week (only in his 40s).

I respect your point of view but I just don't get this testing panic

You could test 65 million on friday then again on saturday and that info could give a different picture again, and we don't know the reliability of any available types of tests

Let's spend more time and effort on keeping folk alive...

I think the ship has almost sailed with testing. They use it to close down areas to stop the spread of the virus. The problem is as late as we are to the party with mass testing is it’s probably far more spread around the country than we wanted and it’s too late to localise it.
Testing is key for people still working and nhs workers now id say.
Plus we want reliable numbers unlike China’s fluffy figures

How we haven't got to a stage where 1000s of NHS front line workers haven't been tested already is scandalous. But i'n assuming there will be a meeting planned to discuss the planned meeting planned to discuss the situation. Its the British way. The sort ofthing that has been a mill stone round the neck of the NHS for years.

There was a reference today in an interview with one of the MO's saying that a quarter of all NHS staff were self-isolating and following Govt instructions because they or their immediate families were showing the symptoms of Covid 19. Without testing them, the NHS doesn't know whether they really are infected with Covid 19 and therefore shouldn't be within a country mile of a hospital or surgery or whether they are suffering from something else, a bad case of hypochondria or a bad cold say. If it's the latter and many undoubtedly will be, they could therefore be back working on the front line. It is scandalous as you say; not just for the health of the NHS workers themselves but for those people already infected who could be being cared for by those without Covid 19 who are still self-isolating.

Its like spraying over rust on a metal railing then wondering why the rust has come back through a few months later. I don't pretend to know much about this or any disease, as such i'll let the experts tell what to do. But when i hear experienced staff in the NHS, whom i know personally, voice their concerns over simple but vital things like protective equipment my blood boils. You wouldn't get away with in less serious places where health and safety are concerned so why the hell is this not being sorted as a matter of urgency.

Absolutely right. The NHS in its widest sense is using the good nature and dedication of its employees to get away with things which ordinarily wouldn't be accepted.

Can Adsld another positive for how out government is helping out , my wife has been furloughed from work she works for an American based company from New York they have now furloughed all their staff in England and America my wife is receiving 80%wage apparently (yet to see it but a good effort)
The staff in America have been told they'll get nothing so the company are trying to pay them 40-50 % of their wages until this ends .

You can guarantee all politicians, celebs and the like will have been tested, the same celebs and politicians who couldn't wait to post a video of themselves clapping and cheering frontline workers at 8 oclock tonight. Yet effectively these front line workers are potentially having to play russian roulette with their lives every time they go into work because of a lack of basic amenities.
Yeah guys and girls thats how much you're valued, but hey be thankful, you got a round of applause what more do you want. Stuff the bloody round of applause you hypocrites, if you value these people so much give them the bloody protection they deserve.

Whether or not Labour would have reacted better than this is a complete unknown. But that is irrelevant. Johnson pursued Cummins' ideological obsessions in February when he should have been planning to deal with the pandemic that everyone knew was coming.
It's an absolutely shocking dereliction of duty and more people are dying than should be as a direct result of his fecklessness.

They're still testing more people's. That's the main point.

We just are not testing enough but Handcock said 100k by the end of the month so let's see.

They're questioning the validity of the testing.

Lots of things are getting questioned. I am sure South Korea press are questioning how they track people.

We use Germany as an example to the lack of testing we do. We can't talk ourselves our the validity of our testing when we just not testing enough people and in enough locations.

Let's just get the equipment which is something we should have done months ago.

I'll have to explain my point, more testing in theory is good but there needs to be a strategy behind the testing. This isn't as simple as some like to make out, "let's get more tests done, let's get more equipment etc,".
Theyve built temporary hospital but then you made a point, quite rightly, where are the staff coming from, what about protective equipment. These are massive undertakings with critical shortages of manpower and supply chain logistics. More could and probably should have been done but let's not pretend all this can be just magicked out of thin air when it's a global crisis.

That's all very true Al. There is no perfect solution to this and every government is being severely challenged in unprecedented ways. But ours chose to ignore it for a whole month when they should have been planning and procuring. That's inexcusable.

Once again can some show me how testing has helped reduce the deaths in Germany,Italy, France, Spain etc?
Or are you saying their deaths would have been ever higher without?
