No one has and there is no rule book to hand to follow, I agree.
But we did have warnings of what to do from China etc and they were asked in January and they said the UK was ready. Clearly not as we are scrabbling about now asking companies to produce things. We knew it was coming for weeks.
The only place that seems to be holding up is the criminally underfunded NHS but I think that’s more credit to the army and the amazing staff that work there, rather than government help. Or maybe I am just bashing the government at the minute?

 

I agree in hindsight, but last thing we want is for the NHS to have been spending vast sums on ventilators only to be sat in storage. To me the PPE scandal is more of a worry, how can a health organisation not have a reserve supply in back stock for something so pivotal to their job. Like the fire service telling their fire fighters to go into a burning building but only supplying half of them with oxygen tanks.

 

China hsn't told us half of whats gone on, they are more culpable in all of this than people want to freely admit. We are learning lessons every day from this virus, China has a lot of questions to answer. We seem to have a lot of qeustion hungry journos about , maybe they could ask them.

 

You have to wonder about the Govt PR on all of this.

They keep banging on about our scientists being world class etc etc yet we can't make enough of the testing kits ourselves. Instead the begging bowl is offered around the world seeing us scrabbling in this vast quagmire of shit with everyone else for kits.

Nothing world class about that.

So we let our brave NHS staff go to war virtually unprotected and not knowing if they have it or have had it. Prime information surely that should be collected ASAP.

That's third world standards in my book.

Of course China are not the most honest nation and the number of deaths we see in Italy or Spain are going to be what we can expect. Not China’s figures.

Im not sure how common knowledge this is but they are building a nightingale hospital in Harrogate and the builders who are working on that have been told in two weeks once it’s complete they will move onto one in Bradford. The one in Harrogate is a joint mortuary too. Scary times and shows we are in this for a while yet

 

I'm pretty sure we've never run out of ventilators before, something i cannot not recall happening in my lfie time. PPE is different, well it is in my eyes as something that is a vital necessity to everyday health care. Most NHS staff are complaining about general lack of PPE i dont see them complaining about ventilators.

Ventilators not yet but if we are not quick they will be soon. Midlands has really boomed in terms of cases this week

 

This is interesting becuase it falls in line with the ventilators story. We don't build hospitals just in case something unprecedented might happen, we react to it. And thats the same with ventilators, i'm guessing there was some in reserve stock but not enough to satisfy the whole need of an entire planet, so we run the order to manufacturers. How that bit has actually been dealt with is more than open to criticism.

I work in the midlands. Our firm has had a significant increase in suspected cases this week.

Its hardly surprising the situation has been mismanaged, it wasn't that long ago we saw the worst set of politicians in the houses of parliament we have ever seen, hundreds of career poliicians with little idea how the real world works. Partner that with the complete disorgansation called the NHS and its a recipe for what we currently have.
