Does it really fecking matter in the bigger scheme of things? You remain preoccupied with one thing when there are so many more important matters going on around us. Give it a rest now!

The over seventies seem fair game these days the latest is there the only group that this pandemic isn't going to affect financially. I retired three years ago after working until I was 67. Ive worked and payed my taxes for over 50 years. Ive survived slumps, recessions and astronomical interest rates to pay for various governments follies and failings. The over 70s now find themselves ostracised and in some cases treated as pariahs. 99.9% have done their bit for this country and paid their dues.

I think your ID and vaccination reference number should be printed on your face mask and you must be made to wear it at all times … although this will only be a temporary measure until these jokers can con you into getting it tattooed onto your forehead.

There's a host of reasons, valid reasons, as to why many people ate deciding to not get vaccinated.

I'll give you mine. I'm 35 and healthy and have already had COVID. I had minor symptoms but as a result I will have some sort of natural immunity to the virus. Not only that but as a healthy 35 year old even if I were to catch it again, the risk of hospitalisation or serious illness is extremely low.

I worked in R&D for a Pharma company for a few years in the mid-2000s before deciding it wasn't for me. As a result I know a little bit about trials, studies etc for new medicines. If you know where to look, the data (or lack of data) on these vaccines is very concerning to me. In particular information regarding the biodistribution and what is crossing the blood/brain barrier. Various animal trials with these vaccines were paused or stopped completely due to serious adverse effects. The mRNA vaccines in particular are so new to science that nobody has any idea of the long term effects.

When I looked into all this, and weighed it up against my age and health and the likelihood of me getting seriously ill from COVID, the decision was pretty easy for me. When you then realise that nobody knows how long these vaccines will actually protect you for or if a new variant will simply bypass the antibodies entirely, you really do start to question why.

I'll just point out I'm not an antivaxer, and if I was over the age of 50 my viewpoint would differ as I'd be at a much higher risk of being seriously ill or dying from COVID. My wife has had the vaccine and I respect her choice, as I do with anyone who has decided to go down that route. However, I think we're getting to a point where those who have decided against vaccination are going to start being ostracised because of their genuine concerns.

Hope that helps you to understand a different viewpoint.

I don't think most people around this area are taking this virus seriously enough. Supermarkets full of people stocking up on toilet rolls, tins and dried foods with no consideration for the fact they're jostling with people that could be carrying the virus. Wetherspoons full of folks enjoying food and beer. Whilst I applaud the Dunkirk spirit it's time we woke up. I lost 90% of income as of tomorrow but I don't care. I'm battening down the hatches for a tough few months. Let's hope we all see each other when it's all done. Good luck to all. I'll get back in my Anderson shelter now.

I'm not going to go into detail but I've said before that as of today I've lost 90% of my income. My faith in human nature has been restored by offers from people to continue paying me for a service I can no longer offer. Let's not tar everybody with the same brush. There are more good people out there than we realise. I am not accepting these offers but I will take them into account in my future dealings with them.

Thank you. I am well, we have now been in the house for 2 weeks. The only time we go out is in the morning we get out for a nice walk for 30 mins but we don’t see anybody or very rarely. We have a nice garden, which we are using as well. Normally on this day I see my son and grandchildren, but obviously that is not possible. My son is a Police Officer so he is working none stop atm. He arrived yesterday, left me flowers and a present outside and waved at me through the window, I left him a couple of scones that I had just baked. Made me cry a little I have to be honest.

I am keeping in touch with family through WhatsApp group etc.. My shopping is coming via Ocado who have given me a regular slot which is great. The butcher is also delivering which is really great. So we are being well catered for. The Dog and Gun near us will also deliver, we are lucky.

The news coming out of Italy is extremely worrying. I am very concerned that ppl are not taking notice about keeping your distance, and staying at home. This is not a virus that you can take lightly.

As a parent of two teenage children I can assure you I certainly do not think they are stupid nor do I think that of any of their friends.

They are acting responsibly and we have had a serious discussion about Covid -19 and how it could affect them and their loved ones.

Netflix and PS4 will keep them going until this is over. Its not going to be easy but its not hard asking them to sleep in and lounge on the sofa all day long with my express permission.

Once this is over we are going to have the best family party ever.

@Fordy117@Fordy117 , you do seem pre-occupied with an envy of whatever any other country is doing in response to this challenge.

This country isn’t perfect, but aside from the arsehole type behaviour of a minority, I couldn’t be prouder of the way in which people across all elements of society’s - including the government - are coming together to deal with an unprecedented type of problem (in our lifetime). In a true crisis, there’s no other country i’d rather be in.

As an aside, the opening of the new Nightingale hospital in London in such a short time is simply amazing. To transform a huge conference centre into an enormous emergency medical centre designed to deal with the worst of the coronavirus cases is just fantastic and almost unbelievable. And who organised the logistics and the project management to do this so quickly? I'm proud to say our military!

Just a thought but London is a very different place to Bradford and indeed many places in the UK. Fortunately for me I can get to a riverbank through my garden and have a great walk with the kids if we want to. Yesterday for the first time on one of our walks we saw a dog walker on the same path. She stepped right off the path and out of the way as we passed. If I want shopping I've got a short hop in the car to a co-op, Lidl or Tesco that isn't overly busy. It's easy for me to social distance and possibly you if you're anywhere other than London.

Having lived in London for brief periods over the years I know how different it is there. The population density, the shared houses, the flats, apartments etc. There's millions of people squeezed in. It's not so easy for them. Going to a park for a walk would make it easier to be away from people rather than have everyone stick to the streets and paths. Now I'm not suggesting that there aren't people taking the piss and not doing the right thing in London. I'm sure there are several idiots just as there are in the Highlands, Seaside resorts, Bolton Abbey etc. The vast majority of people will be trying their best to do the right thing even if they're in their local park.

That's certainly the impression created by the daily updates. For example, the number of deaths from Covid 19 relate only to those in hospital. There is never any mention of those who have died in the social care system. When the speaker of the day refers to how the health system is coping, the focus is on the NHS almost exclusively. There is rarely a mention of social care provision. When discussions focus on PPE and testing of staff, it's usually from an NHS prespective and any reference to social care is almost a throw alone line. And that's all despite two things. Firstly according to the Kings Fund 1.4 million people work in the NHS and 1.6 million work in social care - which certainly surprised me! And secondly, Matt Hancock is Secretary of State for Health AND Social Care. It's almost as though he's forgotten about the second bit!

I'm actually in agreeance with some of your points. Reminds me of a tale my dad told me, In the 2000s he used to work as a security guard at the NHS offices at Salts Mill. I used to keep go see him at night when i was bored. He would show me plates and plates of food left over from the constant meetings they used to have down there. He used to hide it to give to the students that were doing work placement there. They found out and he was reprimanded. For giving left over food to hungry students. Not protocol you see. They would rather throw it away. Just one of many instances of waste, waste that costs money. Every single day. And this happens in every public sector going. I know, i see it in my job. So before we go down the leftist route of 'raising taxes' lets have a look a how the current funding is systematically wasted through fraud, sheer incompetence and down right stupidity.
