what I’m saying is some hospitals run out of ICU beds on a regular basis. It just doesn’t get press coverage normally

Not bad, I'd like to give you a certain figure but I am not 100% sure, but I can tell you it's 20 maximum, and that's in the new ICU opened just a couple of years ago. It shows you how easily an unusual occurance can send things wonky. BRI ICU is one of the newest in the country, years will have gone into it's planning and about 20 beds was thought sufficient. So I don't think criticism can be fairly laid at the door of anybody for an ICU bed shortage.

No he did overload it and not even in the front line where it would be most useful. It was more in bloating the admin and management areas who were generally getting paid better than the likes of nurses. Without that bloat we would have been in a better situation to financially support the front line of the NHS through the financial crisis

Way I read it was that your employer could claim for 80% of your wage back from government

No. The employee can choose to top up the 80% but it’s not a requirement

Maybe you’ve misjudged it. I wasn’t aiming it anyone and not getting at anyone.
My point was more I think we will run out of beds and that the one in London was only the beginning. When we hit peak in two to 3 weeks then we will really see the effect of this virus. It doesn’t feel real at the minute.
Imo we should have gone into lockdown sooner but that ship has sailed now

We will run out of ICU beds and it's nobody's fault and there is nothing anybody can do about it, the most elderly and most ill will be "let go" but we don't know how many of those would have been taken by flu or "something".

But a lockdown earlier just means more "targets" let out sooner or later, the virus won't have gone, so what then? I don't want it but am a high risk position so am resigned to getting it, then it's done.....hopefully! It's how you look at things, everybody is different, we don't have a vaccine, we don't know how it'll mutate so I was happy with the governments response so far. But today I don't know, I read we need 60% immune to provide a herd immunity, now it looks like we are going half way house.

I do know that it's bringing out the worst of us.

I've always believed that the more that things change the more they stay the same. But this is unprecedented in recent history. You look back in your life and wonder why you worried so much about things that seemed so important at the time. This is different. The fallout from what is happening now could and most probably will affect us all for the rest of our lives.

I think the worst of this country has always been there but we choose not to see it. It’s a cesspit of a country the majority of the time. For some reason in England we think we have a divine right to everything and trod over everyone else to get it. No one cares about family any more and everything is blamed on those “immigrants”. It’s long gone

I agree with you. Life will not return to normal as we've understood it for several decades. Society will change; attitudes will change and people's outlook will change and probably in ways we just cannot anticipate at this stage. And not just in the UK but in most developed countries who haven't been exposed to this kind of uncertainty in the living memory of most people.

I disagree about the England part, it seems that way because we live here. Just look at Australia the same crap is happening, look at Ethiopia throwing objects at foreigners and screaming China. Look at the riots between Hindus and Muslims in Indi before all this started. Plenty more examples but I think that’s enough to prove it’s not an English thing it’s a human race thing, we’re mammals and all mammals regardless of supposed intellect have natural instincts which most struggle to suppress in times of crisis. Just look throughout history, we’ll destroy ourselves eventually.

I'm not going to go into detail but I've said before that as of today I've lost 90% of my income. My faith in human nature has been restored by offers from people to continue paying me for a service I can no longer offer. Let's not tar everybody with the same brush. There are more good people out there than we realise. I am not accepting these offers but I will take them into account in my future dealings with them.

We are still on a steeper mortality rate than Italy. I dread to think where we will be in 2 weeks

Italy is bad at the moment and it might be 2 weeks before they come out the other side.
