It costs an arm and a leg to subscribe to Wyscout for the layman.

Have look in the City Match Videos section of this forum (accessible from the home page before you click into City talk) where Dmitry posts up the video highlights and report for the City games. Not sure how far back they go though, for a comparison with Chicksen.

EDIT: looks like some of the old files have been removed from last season so it won't be possible to see the PDF's with Chicksen.

But still, keep an eye out for Wood's stats going forward.

Here they are for the Carlisle game

    Defensive duels won: 6/7
    Offensive duels won: 3/7
    Aerial duel won: 1/2
    Loose balls won: 0/1
    Interceptions: 0
    Sliding tackles won: 1/1
    Forward passes accurate: 15/20
    Back passes accurate: 4/4
    Lateral passes accurate: 11/13
    Progressive passes accurate: 10/11
Accurate passes to final third: 10/12

.....his distribution %'s were higher than Mellor in that Carlisle game fwiw.

Having the ability to recover is a skill in itself. Fullbacks are usually up against some of the most quickest players in the opposition team and so will probably sometimes get beaten by skill or make a mistake and miss time a challenge.. Therefore recovering from those mistakes (he's a young lower league defender so is going to make them) is a massive plus. He's also bailed the team out on numerous occasions this season. I remember 3 at Carlisle..

If he carries on he is going to improve so as a club lets have some foresight and tie down those who show consistent promise and try make a bit of money and gain a bit of success whilst we're at it

Signed on a three year deal July 2018 so no need to be offering a new deal just yet . See how he goes this season (so far so good) then look at extending in closed season when hopefully we are back in League 1

No doubt Wood is coming on fanatically well, Bowyer deserves credit as well. He has a reputation for improving players, but obviously they need the ability in the first place. I’d see how he’s going in January if he’s still improving then definitely another one or two year extension imo, no need to panic yet though still got two years left on his contract.

Patrick showed nothing apart from 1 goal.. then Rahic got giddy and lobbed a 3 year deal at him.... However it's obvious Wood has bags of quality and as long has he keeps going as is (it's only himself that will decide that) If by January he's serving up the level of performances he is currently then we absolutely should be offering him a new deal.

In order for this club to progress tying players like this down to long term deals is a must.

    I agree fully, Olly.

Wood has certainly exceeded my expectations, so far. However, the game is there for Connor himself to manage and play, mentally. More of the same - and yes, let's tie the lad down with an improved contract in January .......... With the appropriate noises within VP telling the lad now (in other words - "The job's ONLY half done, son .... Don't let up now."), rather than on the 31st January, with a barely improved deal. The current man Management of Connor is just as crucial as any future contract signed by him. (And that can be said of other players, too !! ;) )

My player of the season so far. He has been so consistent. He has nailed that left back slot

A very good and well presented post J88. A fair number on here would benefit from reading that, and post accordingly.

It's a shame nothing is happening with Robinson as I think him and Wood overlapping each other would be devastating in this division and the one above. Looking at the players you've listed, i'd highlight Forest as a player where everything came too much too soon for him. I think he scored 2 in his debut against Ipswich at home and we were all hailing him a wonderkid. Then when we went down, he scored a goal of the season scissor kick v walsall i think and then followed that up with a goal away at Port Vale. However it was all too much too soon, as well as playing in a side on the decline. Unfortunately for us it's a double edged sword, if they're good enough we have let them go in the past, as financially we have needed it. Or as our fans expect too much, we can't be like a team such as a Crewe or Walsall that blood youngsters and expect the fans to be patient e.g. McBurnie. Plus I don't think we push the finances into youth as much as they do. I'd like us to keep Sykes-Kenworthy and not be tempted to move him on if the offer came in. We're not going to get mega money for him at the moment and also he fits the home grown player quota, so if he is a back up goalie then we can fill the bench with more experienced outfield players. There's no promises O'Donnell will sign a new contract at the end of the season and Bowyer clearly rates him playing him ahead of Hornby in the EFL Trophy.

Absolutely, my point too. He clearly had it in his locker, as shown with that goal against Leeds. But how many times did he show his power to get on the end of crosses? In my opinion, not enough.

@Allotment Bantam@Allotment Bantam isn't wrong in that he did score some important goals. I’m not denying that. I just think he could have added more if he’d shown my desire/hunger to attack the ball from crosses

His ability to put in a final ball is much better than Meredith's was.. and look over the last few games when he's forced the attacker to make a decision (in particularly the Northampton game) and he did it against Carlisle. Meredith was an excellent defender but also got caught on the counter attack a fair bit.. This is taking nothing away from Meredith who was consistently very good for us over the years.

However his inability to put a final ball into the box is clearly a reason he never moved up quicker than he did.

Totally agree. I have liked Wood since day one. There was just something about him to me that suggested we had a potentially good player on our hands

It must have been very difficult for a youngster such as he, coming into the shambles of last season though

He will have seem Longridge brought in early pre season, and wondered whether he had a future here.

Fair play to the lad, due to Bowyer been reluctant to play Longridge, and Henleys early injury, he has reverted to left back, and is making the position his own with some accomplished and consistent performances.

I too hope that it is not too long before the management and board look at extending his contract

Let’s not have another Omari Patrick on our hands. He’s been good so far but he needs to prove it over a longer period for me

Not yet, but has the ability to provide assists which seems to be the in thing these days for a defender.

It was a superb decision to release Chicksen in the summer.

    That’s all I’ve got.
