My player of the season so far. He has been so consistent. He has nailed that left back slot

I thought he was one of the better players in an otherwise forgettable performance. Akpan did well when he came on. How bad was Mellor though, he stank the place out.

Including last term, Mellor has been poor for a good 6 months. It's time for Henley on the right imo. Drop Mellor and let him know that he needs to up his game.

Some on here think he’s a good defender. Not for me, much preferto have a look at Henley on the right.

If he puts in one ball a game as good as that then we’re in business. Clayton fluffing plenty of chances at the moment.

Connor is like a choice between Gravy and Custard. But which you want want on your Sunday roast or apple pie ?
Remember Jake (?) Colbeck ? Good on his day, in a poor team.
The kid has room to grow, and much to learn.

wow... Colbeck was needed when we didn't have any money. He was nowhere near league football standards. You can't compare someone who has come from Leicester City's academy and a future saleable asset, to someone who came from our academy and only went downwards in his career.

Don't say thay in front of @Park bantam@Park bantam . Joe Colbeck was the best winger in the division at one point. Apparently Peter Thorne told him or sommat.

LOL, love it @Jab88@Jab88 - But seriously .......... I'm not having a dig at Connor, it's just that we all had high hopes for Devine, and he is now just a shadow of his former self. So all I'm trying to indicate is good as Connor is, let's not promote him too highly ........ just yet. :)

I totally agree he's not the finished article. I even think left back isn't his best position as he is a better winger and playing too far back stifles his crossing ability. When he played on the wing against Oldham he was brilliant. Devine has just been a bit of a player that has never hit any heights. However what do we blame it on? his ability? or our loaning players out policy? When he should have been sent out a lot more in the past. Or has he been put into the squad far too early to plug a gap that we couldn't afford financially in the past? Or a player not being able to break through, becoming the victim to a settled team doing well? Worryingly for us at the moment fans are wanting him ahead of Akpan and Anderson which shows how light we are in the middle and so he should be with Anderson not being any better and Akpan not really giving a toss when he plays. I'm sure mentally Devine wants to do well for us being a home grown lad, however as many have said this season is a make or break. I'm hoping the next youth player to come through GSK, will actually make it and become our number 1 in the next 2 years.

A very good and well presented post J88. A fair number on here would benefit from reading that, and post accordingly.

We've had a few over the years who were potential "stars in the making". I'd group Colebeck in the same category as Danny Forrest, Gareth Grant, Isiah Rankin, Simon Ainge and unfortunately Danny Devine (and possibly this Sykes Kenworthy fella we've got).
The good thing Wood has got going for him, is that I haven't seen the clamor from the manager or press that much about him, so he looks like he's got a level head on his shoulders.

Tyrell Robinson. Another one. And one that might have listened to the media and let his guard down a bit - therefore getting himself into a spot of bother. Having said that, I look at his Instagram posts, and he certainly thinks he's a bit of a "playa" still.

It's a shame nothing is happening with Robinson as I think him and Wood overlapping each other would be devastating in this division and the one above. Looking at the players you've listed, i'd highlight Forest as a player where everything came too much too soon for him. I think he scored 2 in his debut against Ipswich at home and we were all hailing him a wonderkid. Then when we went down, he scored a goal of the season scissor kick v walsall i think and then followed that up with a goal away at Port Vale. However it was all too much too soon, as well as playing in a side on the decline. Unfortunately for us it's a double edged sword, if they're good enough we have let them go in the past, as financially we have needed it. Or as our fans expect too much, we can't be like a team such as a Crewe or Walsall that blood youngsters and expect the fans to be patient e.g. McBurnie. Plus I don't think we push the finances into youth as much as they do. I'd like us to keep Sykes-Kenworthy and not be tempted to move him on if the offer came in. We're not going to get mega money for him at the moment and also he fits the home grown player quota, so if he is a back up goalie then we can fill the bench with more experienced outfield players. There's no promises O'Donnell will sign a new contract at the end of the season and Bowyer clearly rates him playing him ahead of Hornby in the EFL Trophy.

Agreed. I was at that Walsall game, and I too expected him to go onto great things after that.

George Green another. Now playing for Boston Utd at the age of 23.

Not just us of course, every team has that "special player" that for some reason it just doesn't progress how it should for them. Michael Johnson who played for Man City. Aged 31 and has been running an estate agents for four years. I remember him breaking onto the scene, and watched in huge admiration at the way he ran games. Reminds me of Foden - let's hope he is managed and manages himself properly.
Jack Rodwell, big moves and England appearances. Can't get a game for Blackburn Rovers at the age of 28.

And then there's the opposite side of the coin. Look at all those players who were released and went on to come good. Vardy the obvious example. That lad who is on a scoring run for Arsenal. Trials at Man Utd and Barcelona but wasn't taken on.

I can see it already - Player of the Season, as City fans love a defender!

11 defenders have won the award since 2001, and twice there was no winner.

Just be a young defender with a pinch of promise, and City will vote for ya!
