Including last term, Mellor has been poor for a good 6 months. It's time for Henley on the right imo. Drop Mellor and let him know that he needs to up his game.

 

He attacked one cross with gusto at Villa away. Another at Wembley v Northampton. Important crosses, important goals.

 

To think, Adam Chicksen was chose over him last season....

A season of League 2 football is perfect for his development. I think he's got a great future. He could be a big money player in 18 months-2 years and we do need to make sure he's suitably contracted.

Meredith was a good left back, but I think this lad has a higher ceiling. He's better on the ball, has a much better delivery and is rapidly learning the art of positioning.

The one criticism I always had of Hanson is that he rarely attacked the ball from crosses. For a bloke of his height and the ability to win so many headers, I found it strange how he rarely got on the end of crosses. You’d see more danger from the likes of McArdle, McHugh etc.

So even with Woods firing in crosses, I’m not convinced he’d have added many more.

 

Ah going for the award of least knowledgeable poster award this year mate? You’ve got stiff competition, but posts like that help give you the edge

Higher ceiling than Meredith... Positioning... This will be difficult...

 

I'm really pleased with Woods progress. His defensive game has improved considerably. I'm also pleased Chicksen has got a club and seems to be playing well. There was never any lack of effort from him. Just his form and possibly a bit of bottle disappeared after 2 horrendous injuries

 

Mezza is certainly better down the line

 

Meredith was that good we didn't need a left midfield player. It was like having 12 men.

 

Wood’s form so far this year has been fantastic, both for players and club and have to agree with @WilsdenBantam that Bowyer deserves credit for that. Credit to Wood, lets keep encouraging him and hope this continues. However lets not get overly carried away. Last season was his first proper one and as a younger player there were indifferent performances. This was natural given he was/is transitioning into the adult game and also given the situation we as a club were in. I don’t think Wood justified being selected ahead of anyone else last season but certainly deserves it so far this season. So keep it up Conner, keep playing as you are and you’ll certainly endear yourself to the City faithful.

On the comparison to Meredith - ludicrous after approx 10 good games. Lets slow down....

 

I thought he was one of the better players in an otherwise forgettable performance. Akpan did well when he came on. How bad was Mellor though, he stank the place out.

 

Some on here think he’s a good defender. Not for me, much preferto have a look at Henley on the right.

 

Very similar to Mezza, Connor played non League before getting picked up by Leicester City and he is a year younger than Mezza when he came to Bradford City.
Theres no doubt if he can continue to learn and bring consistency to his game he could make the left back birth his for many years just as Mezza did.

 

Last season was definitely not the season to judge any young player. Especially not one in his first full season of senior football.

 

So is Jackson Longbridge and he hasnt even played.

 

Wood is a better crosser than Meredith, if that's what you mean.

But as a defender? Not at that level.
