I am not an expert, however looking at the Manchester United Club crest, then it has virtually remained unchanged since 1973. It has scrolls, small footballs, a tiny ship, and seems very complicated. Yet coming up 50 years it remains virtually unchanged. https://logos-world.net/manchester-united-logo/
How on earth can this complicated crest/logo be reworked in all the different genre’s it will be employed? I specifically chose Manchester United given your affiliation.

I've only just managed to visualise the image with the Amber side part of the Bantam as actually PART of the bird. It looked to me like an empty space, making it look like a running ostrich with reins. Get rid of that Amber part.

Secundo: I don't like to see the "C" of BCAFC downgraded to lower case. I was annoyed to see beanie hats in the City shop simply saying " Bradford". We are Bradford City. Maybe put AFC descending vertically to the right of BC.

To be fair if you read the justification it makes sense. The problem with asking people something in a survey is as I said before that they don't always really know what they want. A good example is here with the direction of the Bantam, the survey showed most wanted it facing forward yet at least on here it seems the consensus seems to be it would be better looking backwards. It's why alongside surveys you will often do some form of listening sessions as you get better info from that.

And they say in the listening sessions that BCAFC was spoken about in a positive way as it was something that helped build the clubs identity against other clubs with BC initials so you can understand why they might have chosen to put less weight on the answers to the survey for that question

Is it this one? If so from what I can tell from the image it's not a full-on Enamel pin, It looks like a piece of metal that's been stamped and the imprint filled with enamel and a hard enamel coating placed over it. It's a different way of doing pins, I suspect its more expensive to produce and actually less collectable.

It's the same with the version of the pin of the logo

Now notice how the pin has a number of differences from the actual logo. They have had to massively simplify both the banner at the bottom and especially the bantam. And I can't say for certain but I suspect this way is much easier to do than the more collectable soft enamel pins or even a hard enamel one. A logo simply shouldn't need to be changed depending on the medium its being used, the logo embroidered on the shirt should look the same as the one on the website and the same as the one on all merch but its not.

The world is different to 30 years ago. What is fit for purpose 30 years go doesn't mean its fit for purpose now. There are uses of a logo that were never envisioned 30 years ago

The United one certainly isn't perfect. If you were given free rein today no-one would produce that as a logo. However, it has some things going for it that the City one doesn't (one of which even the new one doesn't have)
    • It's symmetrical. I've mentioned this before but one of the most annoying things about the current logo, when I produce graphics with the logo for this site, that is it's significantly taller than it is wide. It makes it very hard alignment difficult, especially if aligning to an opponents logo as pretty much no other logo is as tall
    • All the parts are connected with clear differential between each element. Your current one doesn't have that with the bantam.
    • It has some finer detail elements but nothing is so intricate that its hard to reproduce. In the current city one will often see the grass get lost or even just be intentionally ignored and that's the same for the raised bantam foot
And probably the biggest thing is it's one of the most recognisable football logos of any club in the world. That excuses some design issues that Citys logo doesn't

You'll never please all the people all of the time. For all those saying if it's not broke don't fix it, the club have explained the issues with the current design, as has @SimonW@SimonW.

The logo is too simplistic for me but I'm not against modernisation. My favourite was the boars head, but that doesn't correlate to the nickname. I've a feeling the club will tweak this design but change will come.

Sorry Simon, I can’t agree. You have made the point about enamel pins and core design over and over again but at the end of the day the club has managed to get the current badge on shirts and merch since 1991. The badge should be one fans like, not one that’s easy for the marketing team to use. That being said I like the new badge, but I’d happily keep the old one if everyone else hates it.

With a few tweaks I think it could look a lot better. I don't like the crest so I've just knocked this up in the 10 minutes before work...

Clanger after clanger with Sparkles, when will Rupp see that enough is enough especially when he sees how much he’s spuffed on this failed ‘rebrand’?

@SimonW@SimonW I don’t think any of us are disputing the rationale behind the change, and we all bow to your superior knowledge on the matter. I think we’re all, or most of us, disputing the actual images used for the new design, coupled with the fact that it seems to have already been decided without any fan input. I totally understand that a brand logo has to cover all formats, but for the love of God, what they’ve come up with as a visual is bloody awful.

I followed the link, the club has ceased Palmetto FC and is now called SC United Bantams (sounds a bit of a mouthful) They have stopped playing in Claret and Amber and have a totally reworked Club badge/crest. So no longevity there. The only vague link is the word ‘bantams’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SC_United_Bantams

The trouble with this sort of exercise is that you end up with 18,000 experts who all think their design is the bees knees! Personally, think this is an improvement, but it is a relatively trivial issue and one not worth getting excited about.

The problem is the supporters pack is too lengthy and a load of waffle. Most supporters just want something a bit more sensible to read so they can dip in and out in reasonable time, not an 80 page document or whatever it was, much of which is page filler and nonsense, that will take hours to read.

Its good that they are being transparent but in this case, its an information overload for a badge that looks like it is already a final version - they’re just sounding out opinion now.

looks like eight bad comments for every two good - looking at the poll. Its been slammed on all the socials as well as here. Overwhelming thumbs down.

I think most of us understand the apparent benefits which could occur from redesigning the crest/logo, having read the information.

However the current one has worked and as technology becomes ever more sophisticated, then the apparent disadvantages of the current design should be easier to overcome, when it comes to placing the crest on a variety of formats.

Whatever the case for retaining the current design, then what they are replacing it with, seems very unpopular. To me it seems bland and superficial.

I think the designers and the Club, could have produced several different patterns.

If they are seeking ‘engagement’ then letting the fans have a vote (they could do this when they wanted to alter the kick off times) on different choices, would seem an appropriate mechanism.

At the moment, other than changing position and retaining the current design, then the club seems to have alienated the mood of Supporters.

We can send GPS guided rockets and shells to within a metre of their intended target, we have cars that drive themselves but apparently an badge crest causes all sorts of problems. Deary me, just simplify it so the image of the badge doesn't cause problems, Christ we're not spitting atoms here. And I'm not against change if change is required. I just don't have much faith in a process that publishes a 78 page document then gets the work experience guy to do the final design.
