BANTAMS SECURE BRADFORD-BORN DONALDSON









City have tonight secured the services of striker Clayton Donaldson, who becomes the Bantams’ seventh signing of the summer.

The 6ft 2ins frontman arrives on an initial one-year contract and brings a wealth of experience, having made over 400 EFL appearances representing the likes of Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Brentford.

Born and raised in Bradford, the Jamaican international began his youth career with City and is delighted to be returning to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Former Bolton Wanderer Donaldson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the club. I grew up in Bradford, as a City fan, so this move means an awful lot to me.

“I started my youth career here and coming back was always something I planned on.

“I spoke to Gary (Bowyer) and he ticked all the boxes, for me. He speaks and acts very passionately about the club and I cannot wait to start working with him.

“The passion of the supporters was a huge factor dragging me in.

“As a player you want to be representing a club with passionate supporters. I am looking forward to getting in front of them and doing them proud.

“It was disappointing - as a fan - to see City suffer relegation from League One last season.

"It is important to bounce straight back and I will be looking to hit the ground running."

Bowyer is delighted to have a target man on board and believes he will prove a valuable asset to his side next season.

The City boss added: “This is a fantastic signing for the club.

“Clayton is a Bradford lad and the move means a lot to him.

“I watched him several times last season, in the Championship. His work rate and attitude was first class.

“He brings a wealth of experience we can all learn from - with him playing over 600 career games.

“He will be a great role model in our dressing room - and out on the pitch."

Donaldson will officially become a Bradford City player on July 1 - when his contract with Bolton Wanderers expires. The agreement is subject to standard EFL and FA clearances.

Not getting over excited but if we keep Doyle with Donaldson and a fair wind these two could cause havoc in league two this coming season, and Bowyer hasn't finished yet.

If you score for your team you should celebrate. He’s never played for us so why wouldn’t he? Not sure why we feel the need to work up strikers as they always have blinders against us

For a terrible Bolton side, 2 levels above and they barely got out of their own half most games. In a side that has majority of possession, and in dangerous areas he’ll be more than useful at this level. Looks in good shape as well.

 

Yeah was just thinking when was the last time we signed so many before 30th June.

Hopefully we will get a good pre season in and this time look like a team that knows each other.

Hope so. Be quite a coup if permanent. I think he looked a very promising player and oozed confidence for such a young player. Loved how he wound up and kept Marquis in his pocket.

Maybe a few years too late with Donaldson but it’s quite clear what Bowyer wants. Up the city.

 

Yeah I agree. Also making so many signings so early is possibly an indicator we are getting our first choice targets which is even better.

 

With a Double D upfront perhaps we will play with a diamond shape!
