Given that we are about to experience the hottest ever day on record in West Yorkshire, that Sunderland will have to set off about 3.00pm. The temperature is likely to be 32C/90F at 7.00pm. Will it be safe for the players to take part in a match? Clearly none of us want players to suffer heat related injury for the sake of a friendly. Additionally fans may struggle with the heat in a concrete stadium.
Should the game go ahead? What is the benefit? Will players be at risk? Will some supporters be at risk?

I think plenty of water breaks and the players will be fine.

As for fans well its early evening so will be a bit cooler and temperatures will drop nicely during the game.

I live out of Bradford. I would have to leave home at 5.30 if I went straight to the game. It will be 35C at that time. Yes at the end of the game down to 27C. Are you really going to wear you thermals?;)

If the two clubs are concerned of the heat, push back 24 hours, honouring refunds as appropriate

It will have been warmer playing this afternoon at York than it will be Tuesday evening. So don't see the problem myself

On a serious point, welfare of employees and players is paramount.

I work in the racing industry and the 5 meetings have been cancelled across Monday and Tuesday, with protection cited for equine and human.

If any concerns, including travel then cancel.

I would also assume that the welfare of supporters would be of paramount concern?

I think its a bit OTT if we cancel this tbh.

just exercise some common sense. It’s a warm day. As Keefly said, ensure we have regular water breaks.

its an evening kick off and it will be cooler then.

Matches across the globe take place in warmer temperatures, and they’d laugh at the prospect of us considering calling our games off.

I think racing is a bit different Dave, the jockeys dehydrate themselves to get down to their weights and the horses are big creatures who don’t have the option of taking it easy and having a break.

Hopefully Sparky plays two different teams in each half. With water breaks mid-half there’s absolutely no reason why this game shouldn’t take place.

Just get a few tables of Harrogate Spring water lined up to appease any concerned fans. There will be parts of the stands in the shade too - not sure which as its been ages since a Summer night game - but the club will know how the sun rises and sets.

Well the MLS wallahs play here in ridiculous temps, plenty of fluid breaks though. At a lower level, high schools in Tennessee can play at any temperature up to 40 with mandated breaks every 20 mins. So far we have had 4 days above 38 and we are in a run of 25 days in excess of 32C.
The heat is only a part of the problem, the real damage is the humidity and the resulting heat index.
Hard to imagine Bradford at those temps. But seriously, without air conditioning it will not only be miserable, it will be dangerous. Stock up on ice and use it to make cool damp towels for cooling. Also, keep an eye on those people who might be susceptible to heat issues.

    Ridiculous post.

We're ok to play the world cup in Qatar but Sunderland can't play an evening friendly in Bradford?

I even had to check the date to make sure its not being played in April.

Is this the same World Cup which has been switched to winter because of regular high temperatures of 40 degrees C which was a huge concern to players and fans welfare?

The temperatures the teams will be playing in in Quatar will range between 20 and 30 degrees C. Quite a bit lower than this Tuesday's forecast.

Was is it such a ridiculous post?!

You don't think half of Europe, Africa, South America and some of the far east don't regularly play sports in temperatures higher than we'll experience in Bradford on Tuesday night?

Seriously, is this a wind up?

Wonder if anyone has overlooked the fact that it's a 7.00pm k.o...?

We’re just a nation of pansies. When it snows all hell breaks loose. Scandinavians must laugh their tits off at us. Likewise here with equatorial nations and all of the panic due to the heat.

If some fans have issues in the heat then the advice has to be simple? Stay home in the shade and don’t go.

it’s like the crew who don’t want to run school sports day in case a kids gets sunburnt.

For the record, I personally think it will be more than safe to play on Tuesday evening. However, there does become a point where temperatures can become so high that steps need to be taken to ensure the safety of players and fans.

You mention these continents but many of them play their matches in the late evening when temperature are cooler. You also brought Qatar into the discussion but overlooked the level of mitigation that has had to be put in place to ensure the tournament actually takes place. All because of extreme temperatures.
