Yet we're meant to believe that either way, Bowyer is getting it wrong.

We lost a game against a decent League Two team. Narrowly, as well.

We can't just boo and complain about every loss without looking like demented arseholes.

 

The system Bowyer played last night was very similar to what both McCall & Parkinson played many times, in Bowyer's case Pritchard was not an out and out winger he played wide on the left, just the same as McMahon was not a winger in Parkinson's formation or Law was playing under McCalls time at Valley Parade.
We were very much in the game (and actually had better chances than the home side) until that stupid bit of defending from Everton, our back 5 have done very well in aerial duels unfortunately last night Tozer was not challenged and put Cheltenham 3-2 up, but we still had chance to equilise unfortunately Vaughan could not beat the keeper.

We never seem to have a team that can play the spoiling tactics type of game away from home to frustrate other teams. We see it so many times at VP

 

Everyone who was down to do well hasn’t started well so far. Probably us included apart from our results are good and the others are not.

Look at the sides that are top. They do no dominate games. They get results and have a solid defence. Newport, Exeter etc. We can be in that group and that’s all it takes to get out of this league. Everyone is at a similar level. Rarely do you have teams who run away with it.

Just got to keep picking up wins. We are nearly into October and the famous 10 game yardstick and we are still up there. It’s a good sign. Each ten games I would say we need to be close to 20 points and that would see us well up there. Probs autos minimum.

 

You say that the midfield will hinder us until January. What do you think will change in January to improve that then?

Most fans, me included, think we are short of a combative midfield player. Maybe Bowyer doesnt though?. He had all summer window to bring one in, but didnt do so.

Even if he thinks we need one, the January window is often harder to bring in quality players

 

It's a shame Devitt has picked up a bad injury him and Cooke would have gone a long way to solving midfield problem

 

Fair points.

Personally, I think Bowyer over estimated what he has in Devine and Anderson. A combination of budget and numbers in that position probably left him unwilling or unable to bring one in.

If Reeves doesnt come back, and Akpan doesnt find his mojo and get fit, then I think the manner of our games between now and January will demand that Bowyer has to bring someone in.

I can see a couple leaving in Jan. Particularly the likes of McCartan, or Akpan, or possibly one of Anderson or Devine. Maybe even Longridge.

Jan can be difficult and we wont see wholesale changes. But one or two in and out seems likely.

Added to which, if, come January, we're in and around the top 7 and the lack of strength in midfield seems our only real area of concern then I can see a bit of money being released to bring someone in.

 

Only if it’s possible, and as Cooke isn’t fit enough for 90 then it’s a no from me.

 

It would be silly and unfair on Cooke to play him from the start if only 50% fit.

I think we use the same starting XI as the weekend. It doesn’t sound like Cooke is ready for 90 minutes and he has been a useful player off the bench in the last couple of games so I would use the same approach again. Same for Oteh and Ismali, have them ready on the bench to replace tired legs during the 2nd half.

Very tough game tonight in my eyes, be happy to take a point but even more if its 3.

This. imagine how crap we must be if we're worrying about how good Cheltenham Town of all teams are and how they might punish us.

it's not even as if we're playing one of the bigger teams in this league. nope its just Cheltenham and everyone's panicking cos they've scored a couple last week.

We should be going into every game with that attitude. If when the final whistle is blown and we've been beaten or drawn and we deserved it then fine. However the mentality should always be to win and to play on the fact that we are the biggest club in the league. Teams should be looking at the fixtures and thinking "Damn we've got Bradford tonight, I'd take a draw right now"

Why as a fan should I settle for mediocrity??, I don't settle for that in any other aspect of my life. sometimes I eventually have to accept I'm not the best at something but I start out wanting to be. That's what I want from the football team I support.

 

I'l take a point before the ball is kicked if we can follow it up with a win at home against Carlisle.

 

this sort of thing is very confusing to me.

so what if fans expect to win every game? of course we do. I certainly expect to be beating the likes of Cheltenham.
if we don't get promoted, we have failed. of course we're expecting to win. why wouldn't we be?

Absolutely sick AND tired of the ''settling for mediocrity'' rubbish. It's just appreciating we aren't a Man City/Liverpool, don't think anyone is being over cautious on this thread just realised that Cheltenham have scored a lot of goals this season..

 

If Cooke isn't deemed fit enough to start yet, it's no worse than Devine being in there.

 

Actually you know what, I think Anderson maybe even more shite than devine.
