Cheltenham v City 17th Sept

Everyone who was down to do well hasn’t started well so far. Probably us included apart from our results are good and the others are not.

Look at the sides that are top. They do no dominate games. They get results and have a solid defence. Newport, Exeter etc. We can be in that group and that’s all it takes to get out of this league. Everyone is at a similar level. Rarely do you have teams who run away with it.

Just got to keep picking up wins. We are nearly into October and the famous 10 game yardstick and we are still up there. It’s a good sign. Each ten games I would say we need to be close to 20 points and that would see us well up there. Probs autos minimum.

 

Cooke for Devine is a must.

 

You say that the midfield will hinder us until January. What do you think will change in January to improve that then?

Most fans, me included, think we are short of a combative midfield player. Maybe Bowyer doesnt though?. He had all summer window to bring one in, but didnt do so.

Even if he thinks we need one, the January window is often harder to bring in quality players

 

He decided to give/offer new contracts to Devine, Anderson and Colville all we know as fans are not good enough.

That's what hindering us at the minute. Now we have to try to get through to Jan counting on Devine how isn't good enough at all! It was a mistake by the club

Only one of Devine and Anderson should of been offered a new contract. Colville offer makes sense.

Cooke needs to start now and we need to see it through to Jan.

 

Cheltenham have been much like us. Few wins, few losses and yet both teams are near the top.

Wins in midweek on long away trips haven't been our strength over the last few years!

Bet GB will be more conservative with his formation and maybe some changes? Young lad from QPR may get a run out.

I reckon we'll be set up to be solid but if we could start fast and grab an early goal then I reckon we'll be able to get a win.

 

Cooke for devine and Ismail for Connolly would be my changes. Maybe rest donaldson for Oteh or Mccartan too.

 

It's a shame Devitt has picked up a bad injury him and Cooke would have gone a long way to solving midfield problem

 

I agree he was good but not sure if he's fit enough to start 3 games in 10 days yet. If it was a home game I'd like to have seen both ismail and connolly.

 

Suspect it will be unchanged starting eleven, Away from home think he prefers Devine as a defensive midfielder until the opposition tire then he brings Cook on to try steal the game

 

Too risky and Devine is sh@te.

We should fear any team in this awful league.

 

Not for me. Just Cooke for Devine.

Oteh or McCartan can wait until we play at home on Sat if we feel Donaldson or Vaughan need a rest.

 

Fair points.

Personally, I think Bowyer over estimated what he has in Devine and Anderson. A combination of budget and numbers in that position probably left him unwilling or unable to bring one in.

If Reeves doesnt come back, and Akpan doesnt find his mojo and get fit, then I think the manner of our games between now and January will demand that Bowyer has to bring someone in.

I can see a couple leaving in Jan. Particularly the likes of McCartan, or Akpan, or possibly one of Anderson or Devine. Maybe even Longridge.

Jan can be difficult and we wont see wholesale changes. But one or two in and out seems likely.

Added to which, if, come January, we're in and around the top 7 and the lack of strength in midfield seems our only real area of concern then I can see a bit of money being released to bring someone in.

 

Looking forward too this first away game for me this season due to work think we might just sneak a result .

 

Zeli Ismail to come back into the squad, you would assume?

 

Wonder how much pre-season action he had. Would he be fit enough to play all 3 games in a week?
