I'd struggle to put Charlie in the same category as Ashley Ward, let alone Peter Thorne. Ward may not have been prolific for us but over his career he had great stats. Thorne was a legend in his own lunchtime.

Charlie will never be a legend at this club. his goalscoring stats are similar to Allan Gilliver, though he is a legend it's mainly what he's done off the field rather than his two years here as a player.

To be fair to James Hanson he could do all of that, and at his best was unplayable. If he added five goals a season to his tally he would have been knocking on Bobby's door. Hanson also never gave less than 100% and often played through the pain barrier. Wyke scores more, that makes him a more valued asset in some people's eyes. Not in mine.

The club's biggest mistake with Hanson was not bringing in either Deano or Bobby to give him some private tuition on technique.

For wearing the crest on his shirt with pride, absolute effort, being a scorer of "big goals" rather than a big goal scorer and at times making PL defenders look stupid with sheer determination, I'll take Hanson over Wyke any day. I don't think Wyke ever gave the impression that he "wanted" to be here. It was a career move and nothing more.

I think you might be being a little harsh on Wyke but I agree with everything you say about Hanson

My apologies to you and all other members of this forum, USG.

YES ......... SO easy to mistake Prudential & Provincial - If you don't think too hard. ;)
I was pulled up on this earlier by my S. I. L. who worked for both in the 70's thro' to late 90's :)
I'm sure @Kevin1954@Kevin1954 appreciates the new update.
In whatever event - Bradford were known for being early pioneers in the 'Quick and easy loan system'.

And massive pioneers of the fledgling Building Society movement Ron. Easy mix up, because at one point Prudential did have "branches" not unlike a Building Society.

I worked for a few building societies in my time, in fact that is where I met the legend that is Andy Tyne. The first man I ever saw having a pint at breakfast time, during a Building Society Conference in Scarborough.

It’s like going back in time, however, I am not sure of the name quoted. Apologies to the original poster who mentioned the name Paul’s. That was one shop in there I agree, but I’m sure it had a different name that oddly I h@ve seen in the last 12 months on my travels around.
    Il have a dig.

Again if I’m wrong sorry, but it does seem we are all clear about the shop itself, just the name is bugging me.

Trust me , there was an employee of mine who rang in “sick” a few years ago, more than once, who certainly was NOT sick. Commonly known as throwing a “sickie”. Got sacked, went to tribunal, and lost.

Mid to late 60’s right through to the closure and demolition of the original Kirgate market mid 70’s ish

It saw me through the mod scene to be followed by the Oxford bag, stacked shoes aka Elton Johns early days.

    Stewart Donald on Charlie Wyke:
“We’ve spoken to Bradford face to face. They’ve placed a valuation on him which I think is fair.”

“If you’re asking if I think we’ll get to the stage where we can talk to him directly, because our bid is accepted, I think so yes.” #bcafc #safc

I had a feeling the shop was called Top Gear, but I could be wrong.
Got a lovely pair of pink cords there, really wanted a red shirt with gold buttons like the Monkees wore, but that was a bit much for Bradford.

Does anybody agree with me that Wyke is vastly over rated. I just don’t get the hype with him. He’s just ok I suppose. I think I’d rather have Hanson at his peak and 100 per cent fit over Wyke.

In terms of ability, Wyke is streets ahead of Hanson.

But it always seems to me that Wyke never quite plays at 100%. But he scores. And he will be hard to replace.

I think it’s safe to say it’s just you.

Now, do I think he’s ready to step up to the Championship? No, probably not, but he’s earned a crack at it all the same

Because Edin is a control freak and likes to think he's in control of everything.
