500k for Wyke isn't enough I don't think. Not when you see what some of the other's are going for. Think we need to be getting more for him than that but can see Rahic going for it as it's a profit.

If the boot was on the other foot, posh would be demanding 2m+ for Wyke. The audacity of a 500k bid is quite something, I must say.

And if they don't, we keep him. Why should we start lowering the price and look like pushovers.

Wheres the audacity? MacAnthony wants the best deal for his club, something he is very good at. Only what Edin has been doing for us and quite rightly.

If the only offer is 500k, I'd rather keep him and let him go for free - at least we'd know we'd have a proven goalscorer.

As you would clearly take 500k, please give me names of players who would guarantee you 15+ goals at this level for that price.

The way I see it is that we have a player that appears reluctant to sign an extension. He has less than 12mths left on his current deal. It is irrelevant as to what other clubs are getting for their strikers. Charlie isn’t a striker, he’s a centre-forward. This type of player will always be valued differently to natural finishers that can create themselves a chance. Personally speaking, I’d expect a value to be closer to £600k - £750k but no more and if we got offered the upper range, we should take it.

However, replacing him is a bigger issue. Can we get a replacement for the same or less money? Would we prefer to sign a striker instead and how many of them are about and in our price range? Would we be tempted to try for someone like Omar Bogle who has done nothing at Premier League new boys Cardiff (hasn’t done much on loan), or similar?

And if we can’t replace him, for me at least, we may as well keep the player for another 12mths instead of accepting £500k. Failure to replace him with equal or bettter for just £0.5m will see us struggling for goals and could be the difference between mid-table and relegation. Is half a million worth that?

I am talking about him achieving his potential. Athletes have coaches to help them to develop their potential, I wonder if Charlie is able to achieve his ‘body mechanics’ maximum potential?
Agree with you totally about the speed of thought, which can give a player an edge.

I don't know very little about lower league footballers at this level apart from our own, but whether we can replace Wyke with 500K is ultimately going to boil down to the calibre of players available on a free. Let's assume Wyke is on 2k a week, having an additional 500K to put towards a strikers contract would allow us to roughly pay them 7k a week over a 2 year period. So IF there are good strikers out of contract, the money would be there to replace him. Players who are in contract is a different story. The only one I can think of is Eoin Doyle.

Whilst that is plausible and I would take Doyle, there's no chance edin would pay 7k a week in league 1. Never mind for a player who's over 30

If anyone thinks whatever amount we receive for Wyke will be fully re-invested back into the 1st team either through transfer fees or wages really haven't been paying attention for the last 18 months

I think paying a striker £7,000 a week at this level (given the average salary) would upset the balance of wages and potential harmony in the team. You could pay a striker say 50% extra and have obscured benefits such as performance targets, which trigger additional substantial payments.

Thanks for proving it, but so so you understand.

Who has a short time left on their current contract
Who is stalling on signing an extension to his current contract at the instruction of his agent.
Whose goal scoring tally fell off a cliff halfway through last season
Whose value is DROPPING as each week goes by with absolutely NO GAURANTEE he will score any goals if he plays at all next season.

I’m positive you would have let Nahki Wells run out his contract and leave for nothing instead of us getting transfer fees, goalscoring fees , future selling add on fees. Et al, et al.

    Like I said......

    I don't think 500k is enough.

if they chuck in a player maybe but if we can only get 500k we might aswell keep him for the last season of his contract.

You can get round that by paying a big signing on bonus as I suspect they did with Akpan
