Central midfield

Have a look at the Sky video clip I've posted, in today's game without O'Donnell being on tip top form it could have been 6 no problem.

I didnt' relise just how bad it was until I saw that video clip, they should all (maybe not O'Donnell) hang their heads in shame that includes the manager and coach.

The central midfield has been a shambles since taylor and reeves were shoe horned into it...two absolutely woeful players

 

Taylor isn't that bad - he's a 32 year old with no outstanding features whatsoever, but that makes him bang average.

He's also been our most likely goalscorer in more than one game

 

Well he hooked Reeves at half time and to be honest it could have been either, or any of the other 9.

 

I'm not sure if you went yesterday Jon, but Taylor was horrific. There was one moment where he took a corner and passed it straight to the first man and they countered on us. Absolutely comical.

 

Taylor is one of the worst players weve had in years. Hes never been a centre midfielder so god knows why Bowyer persists in playing him there.
I dont rate Akpan but I'd be starting him alongside Cooke. Reeves needs battlers alongside him to be effective, we dont have any so hes useless.

 

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this in this thread, but Emmanuel Osadebe has just left his contract with Macclesfield as they weren't paying him. He's 6ft1 and I think he would suit how we play and be that more dominant force in the middle. Hopefully he might be in contention.

 

Isn’t he more of a right-midfielder than a ‘dominant force in the middle’ though? He did get released before deadline day, but I’m not sure he’s for us.

I do hope that whoever comes in addresses the lack of bite in the centre of the park. But who is available? What about going for the lad training at Newport?

is the loan window still available until Friday?

 

Now that Stuart has been returned as manager, he’ll need to quickly see we have no bite in the middle of the park. Are there any free agents that can do a job and if not, is it right that the loan window is open this week (until Friday)?

We desperately need some strength and fight in that area of the pitch. If not, McCall still won’t get much change from our midfield and we’ll still have the same problems

 

Someone mentioned Carl McHugh on another thread.

 

McHugh would be a great shout and add to the Irish contingency in the squad, still only 26 years old

I believe Joe Ledley is still unattached. I think he has been training at Newport

 

Carl McHugh knows how to score goals from corner kicks.

 

Oh yes. That team performance at home to Villa was superb. We outplayed them.
Love to see Carlo back.

 

Can’t say I see McHugh as what we need right now. He was an average smallish centre half at best.

 

Its the ex player comfort blanket.

 

But has been playing as a defensive central midfielder for several seasons.
