That it may have been but its understandable. He's what, three months older than Vaughan and actually taller. Vaughan isnt really a target man but look at how he's attacked that role and fought for everything. complete chalk and cheese and thats why Doyle gets pelters.

But are we even in the market for someone? Not a dickie bird of a rumour out there...
(and before someone says it's because we've just had a windfall and don't want the agents to up their prices.....we haven't been told if there's any money available in the first place!).

If we look at players who had a goal scoring pedigree and yet failed to hit the net regularly, then you could add Andy Gray to that list. His first spell with us was good. He had a few good seasons with Barnsley yet on his return he was not able to replicate his earlier form. Sometimes strikers cannot keep going and I wonder if Doyle’s heydays are now in the past. He turned 31 in March, so time for him to have a renaissance, or accept that he is done. As a sub playing alongside more dominant players like Vaughan or Donaldson, he may well be able score. Being part of a threesome where he is deep lying and with little pace, a seeming inability to carry the ball and/or beat a man, then I think he is becoming a passenger, with little to offer other than a good penalty.

Doyle is well past his best and on the Same trajectory as Aaron the non goal scoring machine McLean was I'm afraid

Can’t remember the last time we had a team which included so many players that get some right stick Don’t disagree by the way, we just seem to have a lot we seriously don’t care for

    Absolutely, and rightfully so.

We have some pathetic characters at our club who should never have been signed, let alone given multi-year deals.

How anyone can point out new lads for stick is beyond me when we have double-figures worth of losers from last season.

No, Bowyer will cost himself his job if he continues to pick those two in the current set up.

Doyle is highly regarded by oldham fans as a fox in the box type. Not saying he is the messiah but we dont seem to be playing him in that way? And its not his fault someone decided to pay him too much money.

Presumably he Knows how to finish in the 6 yard area, playing as he did that first game unlikely to get anywhere near or playing up front on his own(thankless task unless you are built for it).

Why play him as a support or lone striker - when its not in his game.

So there is no reason to play him at all then.

CD. and JV are both better than him, and playing him in an alternative role is a waste of time.

    Sorted.

    Drop him Gary.

That's good. No shouting about if we have any cash available, no rumours. I would rather we just signed a couple of players out of the blue, loan players from a big club maybe, no rumours mill just do it GB.
We can chat about it afterwards.

With the players we've got at the moment I'd play Danny Devine in that holding role. He rarely gives the ball away and is quite disciplined in sticking to what he is asked to do.

Signing from a big club doesn't guarantee anything (see Riley for reference). Another battler like the 2 O'Briens would be good. Agree about just announcing a signing or two though.

Get the midfield sorted and chances will
be created and who knows, goals might
    be scored!

    Last season..............
We were very, very limited in options and
    suffered the consequences.We need to
invest enough to sort out our achilles heel.

Doyle doesn't have the strength of character needed to knock on the Managers door and insist on playing in his favoured position (whatever that is).

He's been here long enough now and I don't think I've seen him throw a strop, shout or kick a water bottle when he's been subbed. It's like he's just happy to come off. I hope he goes this window and we've somebody else lined up. Then again, would we really miss him if we didn't?

I think most thought with the players Bowyer signed and a clean slate for other players who didn't perform last season we'd be better than we have shown certainly performance wise.

People are venting their frustration with him, I don't think it achieves much personally but I can see why some people feel the need.

Another transfer window has shut yet we still haven’t signed a ball winner.

Not only is our weak CM stopping us creating chances, we are conceding chances at an alarming rate now and getting ripped apart by teams.

    https://experimental361.files.wordpress.com/2020/02/2020-02-01-4-l2.png

3-0 at Mansfield, 3-0 at Oldham, both of whom are struggling, and on xG we’re very lucky not to have conceded about 11 goals more this season. Crisis time given Bowyer’s whole ethos is nicking tight games 1-0 or 2-0. If you can’t defend it all falls apart.

    Bowyer out.
