Crikey. Some tough teams in there!

Think everyone will be hoping they draw us or Lincoln at home.

    Aye, probably.

Weird isn't it though. Absolutely no benefit in drawing an away match as there's no crowd revenue!

Perhaps a Wolves at home or something might mean we get on TV?

That’s true, one of Lincoln or Harrogate for me. Wouldn’t want to be played off the park at one of the premiership venues.

Someone like Oldham, Morecambe or Harrogate at home would be nice in the second round.

Im hoping we get a small team just because if we landed a big club away we cant go. Do miss an away day. Miss going to matches in general.

When is the third round played? If it is after speccies are allowed in the ground would like a "lesser" club today with a hope of then getting a few quid from the next round match even if it is reduced attendance.

If there are no fans then I'm not sure teams will be that bothered if its home or away. Stats suggest that with no fans the home advantage generally goes away and actually the away team has the better chance of winning

From a financial point of view our best bet is to get a draw against a big club and hope it’s televised. With no crowd revenue available we would miss out big time , and the prize money for this competition is really poor , £5k for 1st round winners and £7k for 2nd round. That is smaller prize money than the much maligned EFL Trophy !

But surely the revenue from iFollow counts as crowd revenue.
So we need to draw a'big' team to get as many pay-as-you-view subscribers signed up for the game -both City fans and those of the 'big' club.
As league cup matches aren't part of any season pass then it will be a strictly pay on the day basis. Exactly the same as if we could physically attend the game.

Didn’t realise the prize money was so poor. Still I’d rather get a big boy in round 3 and try progress, we’ve got a lot of young lads they need competitive football and it’s good experience for them. Winning is never a bad thing either, who knows by round 4 some crowds might be allowed in so United away in round 4 would do me;)

I take your point. However , has there been any info as to how much revenue comes to the clubs from ifollow ? Is there a 50-50 split between the clubs ?

Totally pointless really. I’ve a feeling we’ll get Villa away. There should be some compensation for loss of revenue.

I think the club gets all the sub money (minus iFollow/EFL cut) that they sell. So if for example you get Villa and total of 25k was sold but 20k were villa fans you would only get the income from 5k. Although not sure how it’s going to work with PL teams in the EFL cup as they don’t automatically have iFollow setup so maybe getting a tie against Villa would be good for you as the Villa fans would need to buy the game from you

It would be better to travel less though especially with the congestion of fixtures from starting later than usual. OK, Villa or Wolves aren't that far but still further than a few minutes drive down the road!

It looks like the iFollow money is pooled between the two teams sales and then divided 50/50 after the EFL's cut:

Must have changed it for this season due to COVID as a know clubs were complaining about it last season over the prospect of having to play behind closed doors as the clubs with smaller fan bases felt they got the short end of the straw
