Because we didn’t sign a target man?

Players at every level are signed “just in case”

That wasn't the arguement, nor yours. You argued he was needed, when in the opinion of most, he wasnt and so its been proved. We had players in the squad "just in case" The money could and should have gone somewhere of a higher priority..

We signed him before anyone else in the window. Did we have a crystal ball and know we would get butterfield?

How has it been proven we didn’t need him?

Because even before butterfield signed he didnt play a minute. Even at 4-0 down during the southend shit show hopkin didnt feel the need to give him game time.
Hopkin will have known who was available very early on, it cant have taken much homework to see anderson wasnt what we needed, he was hardly getting a glowing endorsement from the club letting him go was he?
You stated he was signed has we had just lost jim obrien and karl henry, im fairly sure jermaine anderson himself would have argued he wouldn't have been an ideal replacement for them.
Hopkin has made a rock for his own back, he hasnt had ten games, no window and no cash to sort this out.
He has had 30 games including cups, has signed ooc players outside of the window, had four months to plan for a window, had the loans of our two best players extended, been given "more money" for players in the window and now is still being offered the opportunity to bring out of contract players post the window. If he cant juggle the squad then its his problem.

Answer this, you have been made redundant, times are hard and You have 20 quid for a weeks food.. You look in the cupboard and see four tins of tomatoes. Do you go shopping and buy more tins of tomatoes?

We already had cover at the club, Hopkin had more pressing positions to cover.

So are you saying he is not able to identify good players that we needed in key positions, or he deliberately turned away good players . If he did are you saying we couldn’t afford it? Or are you saying due to our position in the league we can’t attract players? Or are you saying we are in such a mess financially we can’t give longer contracts due to having a pile of players who will not be playing, and therefore can’t secure players under shorter contracts?

So the player signed to cover midfield could now be an option as a striker!! Maybe he could cover the centre halfs if needed too!!

    Hopkin pushing the panic button.

Don't forget left back! Can never have enough central midfield attacking midfield striker left back covering players. It is league 1 after all.

He's experienced and ready whenever to be called upon ie the last 5 minutes of the odd game.

I feel a bit sorry for the lad, but at the end of the day I'm sure DH told him what's what in the interview. If he's better than others in his position during training, he'd start ahead of them. Obviously he isn't, so that's his problem - not anyone elses.
DH's subs however, are in danger of rivalling Chelsea's in their predictability though.

However, if that backheel he did on Saturday went in, we'd all be ranting and raving that he's not starting.
