We need lads who can earn us points now, especially given the length of contract.

Slightly concerned at what in reading, given this isn't a signing building for next season...

Short term, cheap and injury prone defender short of match fitness. Well that must give us all a sense of optimism. My sense of dread deepens by the day.

Tend to agree. Wonder how much of the budget has been used on Payne's wages?

He's the same height as Mezza and just a year older - nobody would assume Meredith would be slow, so no basis for any assumptions.

Hopefully not because that wouldn't of been wise business.

@Pink Dolphin@Pink Dolphin has quoted around £12,000 a month, but consider the source eh.
But anywhere near that mark is a big chunk of our budget.
The usual/normal for us would be around £3-5,000.

Same old Same old am afraid
Never judge a signing till you have seen them play but on the face it doesn't excite me
As for relying on the last few desperate hours that's nothing new but this time I fear our fingers are going to get well and truly burnt

Re Payne, looks like Hopkin & Rupp are in the transfer window casino and have bet the whole pot on 'red'. Payne gets injured post Jan 31st and we are well and truly in the doo doo.

I think a few would’ve said similar things about Caddis but he’s been one of the signings of the season so far.

Crap signing as Preston don’t rate him and too injury prone. Spunked all the wages on Payne and signied to Boost the bench. Good grief if this is signing that Hopkins has been negotiating for a while considering he’s played an hour this season can’t wait for the next! Looking at what we’ve signed were Fooked! By the way watch Vincelot run as ragged next Tuesday

Paudie O'Connor is definitely a bencher, I really don't think Woods will be though.

To be honest, had Stuart signed Woods from Preston, people would be saying he'd signed another Championship-calibre player, why aren't we making these kinds of signings, etc, etc.

The problem is Woods' injury record and the (presumed) lack of immediate fitness. We need players that will beat Burton on Saturday; I guess we have to hope Woods steps in at left back and gives us much-needed experience and strength along a cripplingly poor back line.

What I do agree with though, is we need some winners in and sharpish. Players that can turn this god-awful season around.

As I said on another thread, he has started a grand total of 5 times as a left-back, for Preston, in all his years there.

In Preston’s promotion season. He played nearly all his games as a right-back. Got injured and lost his place. He came on as a late sub in the PO semi and admittedly started the 2nd leg as a LB (due to injuries). He kept his place for the final.

Despite those appearances, he regained his spot at right-back in their first season back in the Championship. He missed the whole of the following season and on his return struggled to nail down a spot. He started just 3 times as a LB (+3 more as a sub). The rest of his appearances was mainly at RB. His only appearance this season was as a CB.

So all in all, for PNE, he’s started the grand total of 4 games as a LB (5 inc FA cup). Not exactly the experienced left-back some would have us believe....!

If we can get the remainder of the season out of him the re-evaluate in the season.
More and more it screams of any way to keep us up and apportion any blame away from rahic as it looks badly upon rupp.

Vincelot ,who's legs had gone midway through last season, I doubt it somehow.

A great point, anyone who was disappointed to see a seasoned pro like Jim O'Brien should surely hold Woods in the same light?

It was clear we needed to clear out some kids and bring in some adult first teamers, well, Caddis, O'Brien and Henry all came in on short term deals and fired us up over the course of December; more please.

There is no doubt that Woods, if we can get him/keep him fit, will be a good player for League1.

He issues are, can we get him fit and where will we play him, seen as Caddis has the right-back position nailed down. I don’t buy into this “he can play left-back too”. He has started there just 5 times since joining PNE in 2014...!

I wonder if that same attitude greeted Antonio Valencia's move to right back?
