He won’t leave Gilly out it will either be Tulloch or Oduor who will accommodate Pattison

 

From Hughes presser, it sounded like he wasn't ready to give Pattison a start. But he did also say the same thing before Newport about Cook.... so who knows?

Gilly and McDonald looked a very complimentary partnership at Newport. Might have only been a one off, but Gillys energy and pressing let McDonald have that freedom to find pockets when we had the ball to get the ball quickly to Tulloch, Walker or Odour.

 

You're a brave man predicting what Hughes will do, I hope your right we need Gilly in the starting 11.

 

Why? Because of his energy?

Isn't that what Pattison also brings but with an added goal threat?

Gilly has done ok this year and I'd probably start him Saturday due to Pattisons fitness but he was absolutely one of the players we should have been targeting to improve on from last year and I'm not sure he's stepped it up that much that he's now considered vital to the team.

 

And play either Gillead or Pattison wide? Or do you mean a re shuffle?

All last week,no mention of Cook and come Saturday there he is in the starting 11 and fit enough to play the whole 90 minutes

Id take owt any manager says in the build up to a game with a massive pinch of salt.

 

So we agree he'll start on Saturday.

 

Usually most of the comments are designed to confuse the opponent. You are right a massive dose of salt.

 

Yeah I think so, it depends on Pattisons fitness.

I wouldn't necessarily pick him going forward though, that was my point.

 

One of Pattison or Gilly needs to start for their running, if Pattison is fit enough it has to be him - don't think he'd play either of them further forward unless he was to push Walker wide to accomodate Pattison in the middle but I can't see it - either Gilly or Pattison with McDonald and the same front 4 as Newport I'd say is pretty nailed on

 

I think Pattison has looked more effective running from deep so barring a Walker injury (and we have cover there anyway) I wouldn't like to see Pattison pushed further forward.

If that happens we end up back with two holding midfielders that will struggle to consistently contribute offensively as much as Pattison will.

 

I wouldn’t want Walker out in a wide position.
Don’t thinks he’s half as effective out there.
He’s definitely looked more dangerous in his last few games in his usual position just behind the striker.
Agree on Pattison.
Has to start if he’s fit.

 

With Pattison coming back from injury I think Gilly will start.

I reckon so, he's been playing really well since he came back from inury as well so no need to rush Pattison back just in case

 

What's happened to the lad Tomkinson, is he injured?
Seems strange that after a five minute sub appearance against Grimsby, he's not been heard of since.

 

We all get confused ! I certainly do but it’s not for our consumption really Tony, especially in the You Tube era.

 

He travelled to Newport with the team so was presumably the 19th man in case of an injury. It looks like he's suffered from a combination of switching to a back 4 and us seemingly going for an attacking bench gambling that Stubbs or Platt won't get injured/sent off then if they do Oyegoke will come on. He did come in injured so it could be that we want him to get fully up to speed in training. Platt is currently on 3 yellow cards in the league so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets to 5 soon then we'll see who replaces him. It will be interesting when we play Grimsby in the Trophy who plays out of him and Kelly unless Kelly goes to left back.

 

Kelly would likely cover for either centre back surely?
