Not to justify what happened, as I don't watch Barrow, but I do know that Barrow were on poor form for the second half of the year, an that the style they play wouldn't really get the best out of Young, so perhaps that could play into how he performed poorly for them

I think we need to wait longer before judging Young but either way it’s a win win for us.
If he carries on doing well we either recall or sell him in January or the summer. If he bombs from now on he is of the books for a season

Rob Edwards would have known that Jamille Matt (who was Stevens partner) although he scored a load of goals in their promotion season, wouldn't be a long term solution.

Matt was aged 32 and never proven in L1 (and failed last season). Why would Edwards then let the current version of Jake Young go? The answer is easy - maybe there's something about Youngs character that put Edwards off.

Bit harsh on Wilde, considering a few on here think he should get our job. I definitely don't agree with that - but I think we can say that Young has worked for three decent managers, none of which fancied him (ask Walsall fans about Flynn and they see him as arguably their worst since they were relegated - but yes, I agree he's as good as Wilde)

Of course Young's "got something". But is that "something" a quality that works well in a team, when the going gets tough? I've no idea, but I suspect that's his flaw.

But let's hope this new found consistency, increased work rate and mental maturity continues - if it does, then yes he's a contender, but I also think there would be an opportunity to sell him and make some money.

I think he's a flawed character. It's a fair deduction based on the managers who've rejected him. They all play different footie.

The flaw, could simply be down to immaturity, that he's now sorted. Just like Jordan Gibson has now done. If so, good luck to him.

There seems to be an awful lot of people who are sensitive about reasonable observations of a player, that rarely 'looked the part for us', rarely 'looked the part' for Forest Green and rarely 'looked the part for Barrow'.

I've said in other threads, I'm delighted that he's scoring so much - we can sell him for a small fortune in January. Let's see what he looks like now he's playing for a team under pressure to get back to scoring goals.

It's still high risk. If Swindon had anything about them up front, they'd could easily have scored a couple.

Mind you we should scored 3!!

My point is that attacking footie in L2, invariably leads to lots of goals - at both ends. But that might be the way this season and we have the potential for our defence to be even better.

With our track record, the next manager should be out of a job by the time MacDonalds playing contract ends. He can then take over, so win win.

If you have evidence of his apparent attitude other than Mark Hughes words then I'd agree with you but you don't. You've run a narrative based on what one manager has said about him, and then used that narrative to make your mind up about how other managers have treat him. You have no idea what the manager at Forest Green or Barrow thought about him when he was playing there, how do you know he rarely looked the part for Forest Green, I bet you are absolutely no mention of this when we signed him, your positive manner on everything would have prevented this.

Don't forget the narrative that Jordan Gibson is now "mature" because he's scored a hat trick this week.

It's almost in the same category as "Andy Cook is 2 stone heavier" than last week after not scoring.

I ain't into this character assassination based on pure conjecture. I don't know Young at all, never met the lad. My wife has actually met his dad, he shops in the supermarket where she works in Brighouse I guess that allows me a judgement on the lad based on what I read on here.

Well there are many looser connections than that Rog. I once gave Stuart my parking spot in the VP car park, on that basis could I claim to be his best mate ?

LOL!! I've not even heard any manager openly question his atttude. I merely suggest that could be the problem. After all it is a forum for opinions : unamused:

My sunny disposition (ironic, because back in the 70's I used to get called 'sunny smiles' in the playground :)) doesn't preclude me from eyeing up a footballer and thinking that perhaps they might have an attitude problem!!

Late to the party but here we go....

Saturday was a great opener for the big man. What he did was strip it back down to basics and make it simple, get the ball forward and don't mess about with it.

Swindun came out of the blocks and it looked like it would be a tough afternoon, but they were toothless and we slowly settled into the game. From around 18 minutes onwards there was only going to be one winner.

It was fascinating to see Smallwood return to the team and as captain. Kev has played alongside him and been with him behind the scenes, so this seems to say a lot about Smallwood. He had every opportunity not to pick him and make him captain. This reaffirms my opinion that Smallwood only did what he was told under Hughes and was made a scapegoat by the fans. I thought he had an excellent game, really solid.

We created more chances in the first half than in the two games against Boro and Harrigut.

I also thought big Kev talked really really well afterward on the radio and I wouldn't be averse to giving him until January and seeing where we are.

Pleased for Bobby to get the goal, but being harsh I thought MOTM should have been Halliday.
