I'm not even sure why it's been mentioned anyway. There was 5 minutes left when he made the last sub and probably only used it because Walker was not only on a yellow but could also barely run at that point. It all seems like good management to me.

    Definitely.
I always worry when Walker has a yellow and is completely running on empty.
He was lucky to get away with a blatant shirt pull before his yellow.

Don’t think the ref was too bad yesterday but it only takes one tired decision from a player and the ref may have no choice.

    5 minutes left.
Get him off and get fresh legs on.
If we get an injury after that-tough.

We tried that last January but then decided not to go for it.

Totally agree with you. The form of players can be up and down during the season, particularly the flair kind of players. Dropping a player when he's in good form is criminal. The sign of how well a manager knows his players is being able to drop a player when form is patchy and then get them back in again. Sorry to say, I never saw any of that from Hughes.

I think Hughes was extremely protective of younger players. I think it came from a good place. But Pointon made the atmosphere less toxic, not more, even though he would inevitably get booed off along with the others.

Hughes didn't seem to want to rely on Pointon and Wilson, for example, yet both offer more than Oduor and Osadebe...

I guess if they had their confidence shattered it would do real damage to the lads, but then again... I agree he was too cautious and got it wrong overall.

Young was 19/20 years old at FGR and they had the leagues most deadly strike force in Stevens and Jay.

When has Pete Wilde ever been a decent manager? An average long ball merchant. And if Wilde is decent then so is Flynn.

The reality is Young is showing that he definately has something and he is our player. Hopefully he gets a 2nd chance now he is a bit older and wiser.

Couldn't agree more Faithful. Ever since he arrived, McDonald has shown an assuredness and articulate intelligence in the way he sees football. He's also clearly by all accounts, much respected by the rest of the squad. Tyro he may be, but give the guy a few games. Looking at his background and the narrative of his story - overcoming a life threatening illness and against the odds, getting himself back into professional football - this a guy with alot of spirit and alot of bottle.

It's not that black and white. There are multiple options to pursue with McDonald. Still with much to offer on the grass, also it's clear this guy will become a good coach/manager - already done alot of his badges. He could be temporary player manager with support from Trueman, Derbyshire and Doyle. Still be registered as a back-up player, concentrating on the manager's job. Or simply take the manager role.

Was it more baffling than playing around at the back and creating nothing ?

If yesterday was a yardstick of the type of football he wants to play then any incoming manager has to emulate that. It was great to see the high press when needed. A real togetherness on the pitch and a few hefty tackles thrown in to boot.

No fannying around with the ball. Who cares about possession? I want to be entertained and be up and off my seat every game. I would rather be clapping a shot on goal than sitting on my hands bored rigid.
I bet our CH's passed to each other maybe a dozen times if that in the whole game.

Because he trotted around , uninterested, at Woodhouse Grove during a training session , according to a sound attendee eye witness on here , hoisted off the pitch at half time at Horsfall because he was disinterested. What would you call that? . Carefree?

It’s not a single manager RT, yes we know MH didn’t fancy him, as it transpired neither did Barrow either. We know MH’s failings of course, why did another coach not fancy him either?
    Strange?

edit….FGR didn’t want him badly enough either ? If so why didn’t they offer him a contract to at least match City’s. Something is not right and it’s nothing to do with integrity.

Isn't that like saying, back when we had only one sub, that you should only use him if you get an injury.

Id call it poor man management and just one of the reasons Hughes was sacked last week.

If you're at the start of your professional career, surely you'd bust a gut to show what you're made of and put yourself at the front of the queue. There are plenty of reasons MH was sacked but Jake wasn't a significant one.

Is poor man management the reason he scored 0 in 17 for Barrow last season?

So results had nothing to do with his dismissal Serge. We have no evidence of your claim have we?

Bit of a misleading state that. He only played a total of 538 minutes for Barrow, was used mainly as a sub.
