I know you have your own view, and that is your right. However not everyone agrees with it.

@Park bantam@Park bantam has no say whatsoever on whether a game is postponed!

The game was called off at 11.00 a.m. that certainly is not early and is probably as late as they could leave it.

I may well be wrong, but not many on here have suggested it was called off too early.

Just as @Park bantam@Park bantam has no influence on whether a game is cancelled, I am sure that you were not part of the assessment team, which inspected the pitch and called the game off.

You said, ‘But now several thousands of fans won’t be able to attend the game on a Tues night due to a decision THEY didn’t make.’
I am not sure when you think supporters decide if a game should be postponed?

Would you advocate a later start to the season, say in September, as many fans cannot attend when they are on holiday?

Are you able to get to a Tuesday night game? I guess you can, so how does it actually impact on you.

You have to ask the question just how many matches have these covers saved?. Not many I would guess. The area in front of the main stand is always going to be a problem.I would imagine undersoil heating would be out of the question financially, but what about the type of tent that Leyton Orient used today. It's just a few inches off the ground, with warm air gently blowing through it No idea of the costs, but it might be worth the club having a word with the people at Orient.

For those 'not able to make it on a Tuesday night', why not? Do you not have annual leave at work? Book the afternoon off in advance when the match is announced if you're that desperate to watch City v Rochdale :joy:

Agree the covers appear to be a waste of time in this day and age. We are forever getting games called of for frost and snow. Time for a serious upgrade of the clubs weather prevention measures

As soon s they took the covers off the ground would have frozen again because it will have been sweating. Yes it would have gradually thawed, but by late afternoon the temperature dropped again.

Then the lack of gritting of the pavement, they may also have frozen again. Any temp under 4c is likely to result in a ground frost.

I remember waiting for a bus to take us to Bristol. The conditions round VP were absolutely treacherous and a risk to life and limb. Short black ice on the road and pavement. We all had to get back up the road to get on the bus on Manningham Lane having slid all the way down the road. The buses had no chance of getting down to Midland Road.

Surely they have the same decision to make whether it's Saturday or Tuesday? To Go Or Not To Go That Is The Question....

If a warm air duvet does the trick then surely it can’t be too expensive?

I could be wrong of course but I thought they had a partnership agreement with a PL team so the PL under 19’s and or Academy teams could play there.

Colin may know more or if I’m way off beam. @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander

WHU use Dagenham & Redbridge for Womens & PL2 games, Arsenal use Boreham Wood, the Spuds Barnet, Chelsea use Kingsmeadow, not sure about Fulham or the Nigels.
Spuds used to play reserve games there (remember them) and Harry Kane is still the shirt sponsor I believe.

    Completely agree.

Not a single game was called off in the Championship yesterday - the only game to be called off was Luton (today) and their ground is well below the general level of stadia in the top two divisions.

Those grounds in League One whom have played at a higher level in recent seasons had no issues yesterday - Sheff Weds, Derby, Portsmouth, Charlton.

If we are to be serious about moving forwards and progressing as a club then we need to ensure we have the facilities to play matches no matter the weather, as these types of teams manage (unless of course there's 5 foot of snow or something extreme).

Hughes can't have been overly impressed with the fact we couldn't get a game on in +3c temperatures at kick off time. Hopefully he serves as a catalyst for positive change.

This is another problem with not owning the ground. When they dug up the pitch a few seasons ago it would have been an ideal opportunity to lay under soil heating but I guess it’s not cheap and why would you spend money on upgrading something you don’t own.
All the championship and league 1 clubs you mention will almost certainly have undersoil heating.

We could have played at Elland Road. They have undersoil heating and not using it due to world cup.

I bet it would be £500,000 mimimum to install undersoil heating and god knows how much to run . Can you imagine the uproar if we spent that on the pitch and kept bringing in free transfer players , that have got us exactly nowhere.
This is all tied in with having an owner with the cash and desire to really drive the club forward. We can but dream, i will keep doing the euromillions. LOL

It was dug up in the middle of covid when club's were struggling to survive. There's no way we could add £100,000's more to the budget to the pitch upgrades at that point plus the £1,000's more each day to run it. It would take a long time for that to pay itself back and what it doesn't protect against is games that are postponed due to fan safety. Whether we owned the stadium or not we wouldn't have installed undersoil heating.

Trouble is on a few occasions games have been postponed because of the conditions around the stadium not the playing area.

Time for summer football. Why should cricket and rugby fans watch in short sleeves while we freeze our bollocks off in winter
