The Voice - Match preview Bradford City vs Harrogate Town Saturday 16th September 3:00pm

Best place in the ground for me. Though we had to move on from there after my dad had his first heart attack and struggled walking up Burlington Terrace, so we ended up in Midland Road so he could park (never on the pavement !!) down there and he had a downhill walk to get back to the car.

Sadly he had another and died 8 months after the fire, and I always thought that he had never got over the shock of that sad day.

 

On the steps leading up to the gents and to the stand , slightly elevated, a great view . Stood there on the dreaded day !

I think oddly that terrace is still in situ even today.?

 

You would have been right behind our group, were you with Patsie group, they were bloody heros that day.

 

Stood right at the front of that right by the wall as a 15 year old with my brother and my dad.

 

Yup. Patsy, and a lad from Holme Wood called Paul who used to meet me in the Queens and plus another lad I didn’t know tbh…Not hero's Dave , just doing the right thing at the time.

 

Always liked the paddock, my Dad always took me in there until I was considered old enough to go on my own with my mates in the mid 60's and could go in the dreaded Bradford end.
Never remember seeing the end of a game until then as my old man always dragged me out before the end to rush off for a bus back home to Bradford Moor.
As I got older I reverted to the paddock as you could move from end to end to watch us attacking.
When my daughter nattered me to take her to a game I always put it off because the language was pretty colourful for a 13 year old girl, but promised her we would go to the last game if we won the league.
Her 1st game 11th May 1985, fortunately we went in the Midland Rd.

 

Sorry Kevin can't agree, if everyone had done the right thing it would have been complete chaos, thank God the majority had jumped the wall which allowed these guys chance to get to safety once they could do no more with regards getting fellow fans out, hero's for me mate, although the other side of their characters could be totally different at football matches, I'm sure you get my drift

 

We didn’t give it two thoughts what we were doing Dave, that was the strange thing , we just got on with it. I saw Patsy from about 10 yards away the following day when we visited the aftermath . We both just winked at each other from a distance . Not a word was spoken.
