I think Bobby is more than good enough for League 2. Don't forget this is his first ever outing at pro level, and I think he has adapted very well. Yes he makes errors, but that will naturally get better with experience. He certainly puts in a good shift, which is more than can be said for some of the more seasoned pro's we have in the team

I also thought Gilliead played very well, particularly when he got shifted to left back

 

Smallwood is playing well at the moment to be fair. He's a completely different player to the one we saw under Hughes.

 

With him not even being on the bench I'd presumed he had a knock. Hopefully he's back in for Ridehalgh on Saturday if he is fit.

 

Hope so.I think he has the potential to be our next left back in the same mould as James Meredith.

 

Agreed, not sure what he's done wrong. He's looked better defensively than Ridehalgh.

 

He was excellent Saturday and largely recently since Hughes has gone - counter to the prevailing Smallwood narrative on here.

 

Probably the least endearing personality I've ever seen in football, but he's playing pretty well at the minute.

 

Yeah with regards my Smallwood comment, it was nothing against how he is playing per se, it's just amusing how quick he seems to dash off the pitch compared to his natural running speed

 

Someone we have never really replaced in the ten years since he left. Do you remember Greg Leigh who we signed as Meredith's understudy, who we released to Bury? He is flying in league one at the minute and getting rave reviews suggesting it won't be long before he is playing championship football

 

Early days yet but I see a little bit of a Robbie Blake in Pointon, he's certainly not afraid to take a man on.

 

I want to know why every time a cross comes in or a dead ball or a corner the opposition players are always free..... or mostly win the first and second ball....

 

He was very highly thought of at previous clubs. An inspirational captain type, much like how we think of Gary Jones, and I can understand why - although its never really been shown here. He was obviously used by Hughes in a way that constrained his abilities, and he's obviously lacked having a technically creative player alongside him, which is still a huge gap.

 

Might be making a point that he still has plenty of juice in the bank?

I personally feel we are absolutely rubbish at set pieces out lined in your post further up. Nobody appears to do anything about it. Plus Smallwood is not good at free kick and corners. We need to find someone who is. Plus we need GA or his assistant to drill them all in how to defend corners and positioning on the field of play.

 

Agree. And I've argued that point several times on here.

 

I agree. I still think a new manager will always give a chance to most of the players, if the most recent performance was OK.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed in the team selection. He likes pace, so I expected Tompkinson and Richards to be picked.

 

I'm quite sure that in one of his interviews, GA said they have watched videos of the last few games to enable the management team to identify what we require?
