Of course, but then it's rare owners with genuine intentions get it wrong. Carlisle have owners with the right intentions, putting money into squad building and infrastructure, they're just learning the hard way that without genuine football knowledge and the right people in charge of that, any investment can go tits up. Only have to look at ourselves and the last 6 years as a prime example.

I don't disagree but we didn't sign one then either so it's kind of a moot point now anyway.

Personally I'd like to have seen at least the one replacement for either Smith or Oliver, to a point where we might as well have kept one of them. But then both knew they weren't gonna get game time so they made the right choice. Let's hope Mellon comes good

Which is mostly the same as you can read in all the other threads ( we're crap, the owner's crap, sparks us crap, recruitment ids crap,we train at a school, ad nauseum). You're lucky you've only got a short break - I'm retired. I have to read this stuff all day.

I think Mellon almost looks like the key to a sustained promotion push. I'm not sure if the midfield can continue to get enough goals to keep us in contention of the top 3 and there are still doubts Kavanagh can be clinical enough so we'll probably need another striker to chip in 7 or 8 goals in the remaining games whether that be as a starter or from the bench

It’s all hindsight, it should have been done in the summer, not winter when the players “ We want are unavailable” as it turned out …(source GA) . We ALL saw the need but pragmatism and realism has gone out of the window since.

Let’s say we did position the winter funds , instead of spending it in the summer. Who would we have not recruited in summer , whilst waiting 6 months to spend the rest, or did you fall for the “increased footballing budget“ spin after the “ protest” . .What happens if we had say £300,000 to spend and the same circumstance's meant these players weren’t available as is a proven fact if the remainder of the divisional spending on “ goalscorers” has proved? We would have underspent the entire seasonal budget by £300,000, thus weakening the side between August and Jan unnecessarily.

Let’s not be fooled here, the cake was only so big from the get go, unless a) commercial activity, including ticket sales increased OR b) the owner put his hand in his pocket, OR c) We started borrowing money again . I doubt a+b has materialised and c goes without saying , he will not do it.

The same old question leads to the same old answer FB…... Unless of course the entire season ticket base wants to see an inflation busting price increases to pay for a year on year budgetary increase without success on the field. The chicken and the egg springs to mind, whilst we have an owner that won’t invest other than to see “ status quo” maintained.

I suggest you read a portion of the Gillingham forum to discover how huge signings like Williams and Dack are performing ? “ No spirit” , “ Here to pick up a wage” , “ Couldn’t care less” , “ Waste of wages” and so on.

You are right it’s a sellers market during Jan , trouble is there are no buyers…. as the Winter sales have proved.

Lets just hope what we have now will see us through on from what i see it should be enough ............... i could get the negative vibes if i was causing us issues but as things stand it isnt ..........if down the line it does then fair enough have a reet pop .............but after the Notts C shambles who in all honesty would have thought we would be in this posistion .............just sit down and enjoy the ride and lets see if we can get out of this division

What quality have we added to the squad from last season? Sarcevic has finally become a good signing. Shepherd on loan so wont be much (as you keep reminding us about Smth/Oliver wage contributions).

    Who else?
