Tenuous link here, my dad's old joiners shop was an old canal building where the land rover garage is now. It ran at the back of the property. I watched them take out the spinkwell lock , the remains of the last one.

I remember there was talk of it being rebuilt into the car dealers that was built on top of it, never happened though.

We have good restaurants and some nice real ale pubs. I feel quite at home in Wakefield, and there are nice places on the outskirts, eg Newmillerdam, Hepworth Gallery, Pugneys etc, as well as great transport links, train, buses into Leeds, M1 and M62 easily accessible
It’s got a lot going for it and I’d be hard pressed to move, at least until the kids have left school. Then it’s North Yorkshire for us!Rogered Tart likes this. -

Not sure if I posted this on this thread or another but if you think Bradford is bad you should try Wakefield. I went there to look at a possible job and I’ll be honest it was shocking. I have walked round Bradford and Halifax, neither of which are great(excluding Piece Hall which somehow still needs public subsidy) but Wakefield centre took it to a whole new level

The last few times I've been into town I've noticed that Scumbag Square (between bottom of Sunbridge Rd and bottom of Ivegate) has been relatively clear of erm ...erm ...well.....Scumbags.

I caught a bus on Market St today, 10 minutes later it had not managed to get out due to the latest roadworks outside Barclays bank.
Absolutely useless temporary lights combined with every bus blocking Market St because of the Interchange farce.
Why anyone will want to visit the City centre ever again beats me, especially when all the public transport will be barred from it.
Only passed 3 beggars though, so that's an improvement. -
As someone commented in T&A, the cheap rent deal must have ended.
No positive spin to put on this one, a little Market up Darley St is the best offering the clowncil can manage. -

Don’t forget that, a) most people are pretty ignorant when it comes to economics; b) most of the press is lined up against them and c) Labour’s core support is concentrated in a smaller number of large areas whereas the Tories’ support is spread more evenly over a larger number of constituencies, so it’s always harder for Labour to achieve a majority under first past the post.
