It was a bit shocking tbh. Walking up from the wetherspoons through north parade. Every other shop was abandoned and the ones that weren't looked a dump - budget shops hanging by a thread. And the people you see. Deary me. 25 years ago it was a busy city centre, great shops - a combination of chains and independents, good pubs, good nightclubs, decent places to eat. Now it's like the toilet bowl of the country.

Off topic I know, but yes it is shocking.

I've done the trek to and from the Interchange a few times recently and it is dreadful. At 9 am it's like a scene from The Last of Us.

Didn't take in the game today, spending the day in Harrogate taking in the Turkish baths, nice cocktails et al,...the difference in city centres is light years apart, yet a 35 minute drive. It's really sad that Bradford is a world away from Harrogate with it's vape shops, charity shops whilst Harrogate offers boutique shops, aga, classy bars and restaurants.

You'd have to teach folk how to use a bin these days Steve as it seems society is taught you just throw your rubbish on the floor regardless of there is a bin near (moderators, feel free to move this post to the appropriate place, you don't need to message me with a reason why you've done it ta.)

Like most classy, upmarket areas, Harrogate is run by the Tories and most of the shit holes in the country are run by Labour.
    Careful what you wish for

Harrogate is a non industrial town with a spa where wealthy people like to live. That’s worlds apart from a city like Bradford that got little or no help to reinvent itself after the wool trade died unlike many areas. And it hasn’t helped itself either with stupid planning and bad leadership.

Its nothing to do with the local council though is it. Labour or Conservative, Bradford will still be a dump. Its a poor, working class city and always has been, made worse since the collapse of the wool trade.

Harrogate is just brimming with cash and posho mums who don’t need to work, zipping about in their oversized cars, spending at overpriced shops.

Whoever is elected to lead Bradford Council has a disaster of a job on their hands. Child and adult services are in absolute bits, schools in special measures, a higher proportion of residents living on benefits or in poverty. City has gone beyond repair.

My ward used to have Labour councillors, absolutely nothing got done. We turned blue a few years ago and it is like chalk and cheese - on a local level you are in far better hands of the Tories. On a national level, both parties are a disgrace and a joke.

It’s hardly alone. There are shitholes all over the country these days, not just the north - previously thriving places that have been ground into the dust by the disastrous mismanagement of our economy for the last fourteen years. I stayed with my mate in Bedford for the MK Dons away game in October and was shocked. It used to be a bustling place with a good range of shops. It was a ghost town. Huge numbers of shops boarded up, streets deserted, no pubs or restaurants open. Awful.

Only will get worse unless those who go to other places to avoid Bradford, actually go into Bradford.
A lot of hope pinned on Bradford Live imo.

One of my pet hates, if anything has me seeing red it is the disposing of rubbish onto the street. My hubby is the same. A few years ago he was parked up on Leeds Road, and a mini bus behind him decided to throw all their rubbish out of the window. He got out of his van picked it all up and pushed the lot back into the bus via the window. I presume the lack of bins is due to security issues, but I was always taught never to throw rubbish onto the street it came back home with you. Much more disposal rubbish fromtakeways etc., these days. There is no civic pride in Bradford, it makes me feel very sad what has happened to our vibrant City.

Agree. That will be another genuine reason to go into town.

At the minute the only reason I have to go in is to visit the shawarma van outside Broadway, Hustlergate side. There can’t be a better value take out food option in West Yorkshire. For a fiver, at a time when food prices have gone through the roof, the bloke is offering a tremendous deal. Proper tasty food, not cheap filth like a Rajas

It is appalling. Council are now closing their tips, so expect more if that is possible.

What’s the reason for closure? No space?
