Off topic I know, but yes it is shocking.

I've done the trek to and from the Interchange a few times recently and it is dreadful. At 9 am it's like a scene from The Last of Us.

Its nothing to do with the local council though is it. Labour or Conservative, Bradford will still be a dump. Its a poor, working class city and always has been, made worse since the collapse of the wool trade.

Harrogate is just brimming with cash and posho mums who don’t need to work, zipping about in their oversized cars, spending at overpriced shops.

Whoever is elected to lead Bradford Council has a disaster of a job on their hands. Child and adult services are in absolute bits, schools in special measures, a higher proportion of residents living on benefits or in poverty. City has gone beyond repair.

Like most classy, upmarket areas, Harrogate is run by the Tories and most of the shit holes in the country are run by Labour.
    Careful what you wish for

    Why don’t we have a
People who don’t get around the UK, believe everything they watch on GB news, so it’s one sided lazy thinking from the get go. High Streets in most places are on their absolute knees. One close to me, Peterborough a once bustling , thriving place, used to be well worth a trip. It literally is crumbling to the ground. It’s a Tory MP before anyone asks.
We all know why……..It’s Labour’s fault, who haven’t been in Government for 14 years , it’s the EU ‘s fault for pulling all those development grants from under our feet whilst we spend £350 fictitious millions extra on our NHS every week. People have been conned , and yet afraid to admit it, just double down, because it hurts their feelings and their pockets .
No matter the incoming government, they are in for a rocky ride.
The country is debt riddled, we don’t make anything for export, because we voted to make exports more difficult. There is little manufacturing investment other than to the coffers of the Indian Government and Sunaks wife. Read about Infosys, and the child care company she is a massive shareholder in . ( Work that out ;)) whilst public services have been cut to the bone.
Saddam Hussein crashed and burned when he left office…….. This Government are doing the same.

Loyal used Harrogate as an example of a nice place to live. I live in a far more affluent area for the record, more millionaires per square mile than Harrogate will ever dream of.

Village grass no longer cut, bus services withdrawn, more potholes in the roads than on the moon. Waterways unkemp and prone to flooding and I mean flooding.

Our MP………..Liz , crash the economy, Truss who is sponsored by Taiwan millionaires and ultra right headbangers .

It’s all Labours fault some say. Really?

Move my post with pleasure Admin.

Harrogate is a non industrial town with a spa where wealthy people like to live. That’s worlds apart from a city like Bradford that got little or no help to reinvent itself after the wool trade died unlike many areas. And it hasn’t helped itself either with stupid planning and bad leadership.

It’s hardly alone. There are shitholes all over the country these days, not just the north - previously thriving places that have been ground into the dust by the disastrous mismanagement of our economy for the last fourteen years. I stayed with my mate in Bedford for the MK Dons away game in October and was shocked. It used to be a bustling place with a good range of shops. It was a ghost town. Huge numbers of shops boarded up, streets deserted, no pubs or restaurants open. Awful.

A lot of that has nothing to do with government, pubs and shops have been shutting because people's drinking and shopping traits have changed over a generation. People either now migrate to the big city developments such as Leeds, Liverpool or Manchester or the niche destinations to eat and socialise such as Haworth or Saltaire. Companies like Amazon have seem the death of the high street with deliveries straight to your door. I'm no apologist for this useless government but no government could have turned round this countries local economies once the rot had set in, and that rot had set a lot longer than 24 years ago.

It's inevitable and a direct consequence of Govt policy. The Govt has outsourced some of its responsibilities for housing certain groups to a couple of outsourcing companies. Those groups includes asylum seekers waiting for their application to be assessed and some groups of homeless people and families. The outsourcing companies are incentivised to house these groups as cheaply as possible which in practice means where housing is the cheapest. And guess what, housing in parts of inner-city Bradford is both cheap and plentiful. It's self fulfilling and I can't imagine this changing in the immediate future.

There has never been a more apt song than Bradfords a shit hole I want to go home. It's a disgrace. I've lived in other places in the uk and the one thing that is noticeably different is that the people in other places ive lived actually take some pride in their city. I deal with certain parts of the council for work and they are an absolute nightmare. They are generally rude, arrogant and put so many unrealistic obstacles in peoples way (under the guise of representing Bradford residents too) that it makes it nigh on impossible to get anything done. Whats even worse for me they take great delight in doing it. Most of them wouldn't last a month in private industry the wasted money is appalling. As for the city centre when I was younger I'd go to Bradford for a night out I wouldn't even think of doing that now.

Leeds on the other hand are still tough but they are realistic and generally accommodating where they can be. The only way it will get better is to attract private investment. Like it or not that means making it attractive to investors with reduced red tape and attractive rates its just reality. Yes they will make more money and become wealthier but so will others around them.

Didn't take in the game today, spending the day in Harrogate taking in the Turkish baths, nice cocktails et al,...the difference in city centres is light years apart, yet a 35 minute drive. It's really sad that Bradford is a world away from Harrogate with it's vape shops, charity shops whilst Harrogate offers boutique shops, aga, classy bars and restaurants.

Only will get worse unless those who go to other places to avoid Bradford, actually go into Bradford.
A lot of hope pinned on Bradford Live imo.

One of my pet hates, if anything has me seeing red it is the disposing of rubbish onto the street. My hubby is the same. A few years ago he was parked up on Leeds Road, and a mini bus behind him decided to throw all their rubbish out of the window. He got out of his van picked it all up and pushed the lot back into the bus via the window. I presume the lack of bins is due to security issues, but I was always taught never to throw rubbish onto the street it came back home with you. Much more disposal rubbish fromtakeways etc., these days. There is no civic pride in Bradford, it makes me feel very sad what has happened to our vibrant City.

I'm convinced that some areas of the country are designated as the nation's junk rooms. Dump the issues where they can be contained. Bradford is one.

They had a chance to redevelop a part of town for future generations, open up the area between the cathedral and little Germany and the old post office HQ. Instead they shoehorned a grotesque non descript shopping centre in despite all the trends showing people moving away from high street shopping. The council bang on about the Odeon but it was the will of the people that saved the only real chance of bringing revenue back to the city centre on a regular basis, the council would have pulled it down if they'd have their way.
I'm sick to death of people with no idea being able to shithouse their way to vastly over inflated salaries in local and central government without delivering anything to justify it. These folk would not last two minutes in the private sector with similar paid roles.

I don’t think that’s the point really. It’s a racial slur against white people!!! I’ve been called it myself !!

How can anyone wonder why people are leaving Bradford in their droves !!!

You'd have to teach folk how to use a bin these days Steve as it seems society is taught you just throw your rubbish on the floor regardless of there is a bin near (moderators, feel free to move this post to the appropriate place, you don't need to message me with a reason why you've done it ta.)

My ward used to have Labour councillors, absolutely nothing got done. We turned blue a few years ago and it is like chalk and cheese - on a local level you are in far better hands of the Tories. On a national level, both parties are a disgrace and a joke.
