Shocking isn't it? Blame the French. I used to point out to my Southern friends, that York and the North was the making of this country, and we never let anybody invade that *unless you're talking about the Vikings, but then that becomed hazy due to the fact that us Northerners are related...and in actual fact the Frogs only got in due to our King Harold *also a Viking, deterring Vikings (yes its complicated) from invading Up North (in Stamford Bridge..yes I said it was complicated), and coming back to that there Down South, half arsed and completely knackered. And there you go, history 1066 and all that. Londoners need to understand that the only reason its important, is because of its geographical location to France. The reason they all sound similar too. During the industrial revolution, the North was pulling in far more money than the South. Running the country. But of course, London (French) arrogance would never admit that. OP: have I gone off topic? Sorry.

FOOTNOTE! Ironic that I've had a few lovely glasses of Chablis which have fuelled me to write this post. Sorry for any typos and grammar errors.

Who on earth is responsible for this absolute clusterfuck that is Bradford city centre right now?
Just been waiting for the bus and witness a kickoff between a bus driver and a young lad. Turns out a group of people have been waiting at the right bus stop but the bus stopped at another stop and didn't wait to let them move from the other stop. The lad runs after it and after banging on the door the driver refuses to open the door, lad calls him a dick head. Then the driver opens the door but refuses to let the lad on for calling him. Talking to the lad after with security, he tells me he's worked all day and now has to wait another hour before he sees his young daughter.
Low and behold my bus stops at another stop from the one it's supposed to but it has done this before so I'm ready for it. I quiz my driver as to why it's not the right stop and his reply ' we just stop anywhere'.
How the hell can you run a public transport service like this where people can't even be sure where the bus is supposed to stop? Couple this with roadworks and a new road system that is chaos and I almost think they don't want people to come to the city.

Usually just staff cost cutting, like it's not important to keep them open compared to so much more money mis-spent elsewhere ....

Fly tipping is rife here too. Liz Truss’s council imposed a charge for people to drop waste off at the local recycling sites. You can guess the rest.

Leeds has had billions in investment, private and public, over the past twenty years, whereas Bradford has been left to rot. Mills and factories closed decades ago and now all the white collar jobs - HMRC, Post Office, Banks & building society HQs etc have either shut down completely or been ‘regionalised’, for which read ‘moved to Leeds’. It becomes a self fulfilling prophesy - the more that gets shut down the less likely other businesses want to move here.
Politicians and companies only seem to be aware of two places in ‘the north’ - Leeds and Manchester. Between them they hoover up the vast bulk of any northern investment. Everywhere else feeds on scraps and simply cannot compete with them

There is no single power of authority pushing Bradford to the front of the queue. It ought to be given the total lack of investment. I agree about Leeds and Manchester, and it hasn’t improved having a Mayor for West Yorkshire who also bases herself in Leeds. There is a new market place being built but I am sure it will be another white elephant. I also agree that the council also are not receiving the same amount of council tax receipts due to house prices being low priced. It will not make a jot of difference which colour of government get in either, the ruination of Bradford has been going on for decades.

Bradford has become a dumping ground for waifs and strays as areas like Leeds and Manchester become desirable city centre living destinations. If I had chance to leave I wouldn't miss anything about the centre of Bradford at all, they could level the place for me.

Yes, there’s certainly a lot of truth in what you’re saying there. Drinking and shopping changes have certainly hammered the centres of unfashionable towns and cities harder than the nicer ones. On the rare occasions that people decide to go out shopping or eating and drinking they want to go to places that are nicer, have better shops, bars and restaurants etc. So the places that are doing well keep doing well and the other places just decline further. It becomes a vicious circle. Certainly, I’d rather go to Leeds, Ilkley or Harrogate than to the centre of Bradford, whether for shopping, eating out or entertainment.

But there’s no doubt that places that are already more vulnerable will be hardest hit by economic downturns and by government budget cuts because they are less able to ride out economic turbulence. So Bradford has suffered a quadruple whammy compared to places like Leeds, Harrogate and Manchester, specifically because of Tory government decisions:

1.The general economic government incompetence of the last fourteen years - austerity economics causing our economy to keep contracting and/or failing to grow while other comparable countries recovered from the global banking crash by reflating their economies.

    2. Specific government cuts to local authorities using a ridiculous formula which persistently hits poorer northern authorities much harder than richer southern ones. And particularly hits poorer places like Bradford, which have been more reliant on specific government anti-poverty grants than more affluent places like Leeds.

    3. Loss of massive amounts of EU grants because of Brexit.

    4. What targeted government investment there has been is invariably directed at Leeds and Manchester rather than places like Bradford, thus widening the existing inequalities even further.

As much as i despise the Tories, i could never see myself ever voting for Labour. If i were to vote it would be because i believe in something passionately, it would hypocritical of me to vote as i don't believe at all in the only opposition who could be realistically voted in due to numbers voting. How can anyone trust a party to lead when even the members of that party don't trust their own party? Sadly, due to my own views on the country and society in general i'm pretty sure there will never be a party i could fully believe in.

I got the 576 on Saturday evening for a trip to Halifax. Luckily I had trainers on or otherwise I would have been waiting for the next option. Have to say the chap driving the bus wasn't friendly nor accommodating
