Absolutely right Loz. The wife was watching a program about Monaco and the King. What an absolute bunch of pretentious bar stewards. His wife is a token to wer on his arm. Bit like Diana was imho. Awful people , awful place!

That's such a bad example. Read any town or cities local paper and you'll be greeted with the latest crime stories.

Bradford city centre is a very attractive centre if you choose to look up and see the architecture, the nice public realm. It has decent enough shopping, some great and unique bars (Sunbridge Wells for example) and is seeing investment - Bradford Live, the new market, City Park grade A office's. I work in Huddersfield and it is a cesspit compared to Bradford.

I don't listen to the views of the Bradford public anymore. I take value from the views of people who are not from the city, but have been to visit. My friend from Northampton came for the match last season and was really surprised how nice the city was - his words not mine.

He doesnt live in the city centre. Its rat infested, drug infested, full of takeaways and mobile phone shops and is disgustingly dirty.

It could be so much more.

    Agree entirely.
My sister works at the bottom of Sunbridge rd and just walking anywhere from there towards the interchange or the Alhambra involves dodging any amount of low life drunks and spiced up wasters.
The amount of police time that’s spent each day sorting them out is scandalous.

Well this is going to be subjective - as is this discussion in general - but you did ask!

I don't know how old you are Roger or for what purpose you would frequent any town or city centre, everyone is different. However, for me and my young family there are a number of reasons.

Firstly, we love the theatre. Alhambra is one of the best in the country and St George's Hall provides for fun entertainment also. National Media Museum is a given, City Park and its water feature is great for the kids and the cafe The Cake 'Ole is ideally placed for a light bite and coffee.

Continuing with the theme of family entertainment there's the following: Funzy, 4 cinemas (including Imax)! The retro arcade in the old T&A building, bowling and the VR centre.

Shopping isn't bad - not the high end experience of Leeds or Manchester - and The Broadway is a pleasant space with some of the better high street shops. It serves a purpose well enough.

Architecture is wonderful - plenty of investment needed in places admittedly - and the Waterstones is quite frankly the best in the country bar none. Worth a visit and a pleasant stop for a coffee.

Sunbridge Wells is unique and is where I start for pre-match drink. I think it's a great space and not somewhere you would find in many other towns or cities. North Parade needs no introduction but has a great independent vibe.

Bradford is not the place for fine dining but has a number of family friendly places to eat and we all know we're spoiled for choice when it comes to a good curry.

As I said, plenty of reasons to visit. Well, at least we think so.

None of the above is probably of interest to you, but at least I've demonstrated how well the city caters for a young family and for me and my mates when going for pre-match drinks.

But failure to get promoted is the most likely outcome. We're Odds Against to get promoted.
The bookies think we're much more likely to not get promoted, than get promoted.
We all hope we will get promoted but next season could be tough with so many players on 2/3 year deals.

Shame you guys weren't around to remember the City centre when it had the equivalent of the Victoria Quarter in Leeds in the Swan Arcade and Kirkgate Market two wonderful old architectural buildings, unfortunatly where Leeds could see the beauty going forward our council at the time were happy sell them to a property developer and let both be demolished and rebuilt with the monstrosities where the old Broadway was before the new Broadway was built blocking the view of the old general post office building and Bradford Cathedral.
I get both sides of the debate but have to admit I seldom frequent our City centre although I attend the annual memorial.

If you're only ever walking around manningham on a night when there's a game on then I'm not sure that counts offy?

I'm also glad you've never had any trouble with break ins on your car but I've been done twice, my friends have also been done and I've read posts on here about several others.

Didn't the police have to step up patrols only a few years ago due to the number of incidents on match days only a few seasons ago? I'm sure I read it in the T&A or somewhere.

Bradford City centre before Broadway, Forster Sq and Kirgate were architectural gems. They could easily have been modernised, but developers and cash and councillors with zero foresight won the day

Im calling BS on his post - not quite sure his comments would be the same had we been discussing a predominately white British area.

Wouldn’t park my car anywhere in Thorpe Edge, a predominantly white area.

What are you on about? I've lived in Bradford Met for 42 years and been in Manningham on numerous occasions, to eat, to visit friends as well as to attend City matches. When I worked in central Bradford I used to run training sessions at Carlisle Business Centre on a regular basis.
I can only speak about it as I've found it. I've never encountered any hostility whenever I've been there and never had my car damaged. Maybe I have just been lucky but I can only describe my experience.
Yes,Manningham is pretty scruffy, but no more so than many run down areas of many other towns and cities around the UK.

I lived on Thorpe Edge from 1959 to 1966.
I lived in Middlesbrough, near Ayresome Park from 1971 to 1973.
I lived on Lumb Lane in Bradford in 1974.
I lived on Church Street (end of Lumb Lane) in Bradford in 1974.
I lived in East End Park in Leeds 1975 to 1976.
I lived in Harehills, Leeds (near The FForde Grene) 1976 to 1979.
I lived in Beeston, Leeds (below the Park) 1979 to 1982.

All "rough" places but I have never had any problems in any of those locations.

Been burgled twice in Selby, the "nice" area.

Lived in harehills 1981 to 1985, loved it there, proper community back then, a bit rough around the edges, especially Rocky's and the Compton Arms but really good times. Not so good venturing into chapeltown and Cosmo's but it sharpened up your sprinting skills
