Young Staunton did very well and didn't look out of place at all.
French playing out of position did very well also, getting an assist and covered at the back post on a number of occasions.
Watt and cook could be very good in midfield this season.
Clarke looked lively and did well.
Wood had a very good second half.
Also nobody has mentioned Donaldson came on and won a great little knockdown to O'connor leading upto that second goal.

 

That's what I said before we have a good spine but lack 3/4 more quality players in some areas. That said French and Staunton deserve more game time on their performance today.

 

Donaldson did brilliantly for the 2nd goal.

 

Can we stop obsessing about every single missed chance?

Good teams create chances, you shouldn't have to finish every single one on one to avoid criticism.

Doyle seemed to miss easy chances every game for Swindon, he just got two or three per game.

 

This is what we’ve missed for so many seasons. Already today there were so many more positive signs of confidence to knock the ball around and create space, something i haven’t seen us do for seasons.

Not getting carried away, however it’s nice to enjoy a victory that had some hard work behind it.

 

don't think we have a poor squad but we sure need additions. the performances of the 2 youngsters improves our confidence in the squad depth but we still need some pace up front and cover for injuries, loss of form etc

 

Good team effort yesterday.
Nice to be in the hat for the next round, it's been an age.
First real competitive game early,early days but yesterday's performance was miles better than the dross witnessed at Salford which seems a very long time ago.

 

Looking at posts from page 1 to now is certainly entertaining. Ok it was a cup game that cant be judged, ok it was only an away game in an empty stadium, ok it was only an unorganised Bolton la la la.

So if no credit can be given how about our weakened, inexperinced, young team in part played with confiction and to the best of their ability in anorganised display.

Lets be positive. If not what benchmark are we using for comparison? Last season, season before. Lets hear it.

 

Yesterdays result meant everything. Look at how we played, some style, confidence on the ball, movement of it, defensively organised. Could have scored 4 maybe 5 goals easily. Finished the game strongly.
I think its £5 grand for the winner as well.

I saw what looked like a team that will play for each other unlike the last 2 seasons.

So yes that result and performance was very encouraging and lets see how the squad pans out as more signings come in.

 

Fordy, even when were were under Parkinson, getting to cup finals and getting promoted we were “failing” in your eyes, so your rhetoric is like water off a duck’s back to most people in here.

 

Predictions for me are hard but I'm feeling a 3-2 thriller to us!
I am bothered about a good cup run, especially as now cup run money can go into the wages with no repercussions! I think the fact its Bolton too is good as it would show where we both are currently. just a shame we cant go to any away days, need the bigger clubs at home!

I do think either way it will be a tasty match.

I understand what you’re saying, but I strongly believe McCall knows what he’s doing. It’s plainly obvious he’s waiting on players to be allowed to go out on-loan - a market whereby he’s done relatively well in before.

I’ll judge this season’s recruitment once the window closes - it’s clear that our business in this window is far from finished.

We seem well drilled in what we are doing and covering well when pressed. Good team effort so far. Guthrie showed a few good touches..there might be something more there as his confidence grows.
