Match Thread Bolton Wanderers (away) - Carabao (League) Cup

I will take that for a start.
A few things that still need to be worked on and hopefully a couple of additions in the next week or so.
I thought Billy Clarke had a decent game and linked play well, unlucky not to score with that dinky little chip.

 

A good result and think we played well in patches. We seem very slow but the players will still be rusty.
Whoever made Bolton one of the favourites this season needs to watch them play. They will lucky to be top half.

 

People saying they need time to gel but don’t mention how good we can be with 3 or 4 new arrivals

 

I know its dreadfull. Only beating one of the favorites for the league , on their own patch , by the odd goal.
Early days and things to work on , but it a good starting point.

 

That's what I said before we have a good spine but lack 3/4 more quality players in some areas. That said French and Staunton deserve more game time on their performance today.

 

Despite a very promising game for Tyler French in the right wing back position, I trust McCall is not naive enough to think we now don't need to bring in a right back. We need good options for all positions, despite saying DMH and Ismail can play there.

The most pressing issue for me though is bringing in a striker who offers something different, such as pace, to play alongside Novak

 

I thought we passed the ball quickly at times and had good movement off the ball. I didn't particularly think we were very slow today at all. I think we played well for long spells, defending well and attacking well.
Doyle didn't have a sniff today.

 

Just one more comment - so pleased for Stuart tonight He has kept an upbeat demeanour throughout the pre season, and lets be honest not many of us have felt that way! Todays win should be nothing more than a stepping stone to what is required in the weeks and months to come (and I hope we will be pushing bloody hard to get the additions in quickly) but enjoy a beer tonight Mac

 

It will be a reall bonus if the young players continue to impress as it sounds like they did today

 

With the salary cap and squad number cap we need to give them a chance to play and potentially become full first team players week in week out next year. Been saying Reece needed more game time for a while now. I think Stuart likes young Scales too but we need someone who can tackle a bit more than another attacking midfielder on today's evidence at the moment.

 

A great win and a chance of hopefully a half decent draw to test ourselves next round. A good confidence boost before the new season starts.

Not seen any of the game as I was out but there is no doubt we have a half decent xi and the odd back up. I don’t think anyone has Denied this. But any injuries or suspensions is where we will struggle. That hasn’t changed with this one. As the season wears on we will need more cover and a deeper squad than we have got.

No credit to be taken away from Stuart and the boys however. Good win and nice to see city win again.

Indeed we will, but what pleased me most today was that only one of our players disappointed. Last season almost ALL did!!
